When I studied finance in the centre of ICMA ,the author was a lecturer.
I studied econometrics with this book. The merit of this book is that the student can understand the basic theory easily. The demerit of this book is that the deep theory is not covered.Anyway many finance courses choose this book. The author has moved from the university of reading to the city university.

Recently I started working for myself and last year I had to fill in a UK self-assessment tax return for the first time. When I got the tax form from the Tax Office my heart sank - there were so many things I had to fill that I didn't understand. Furthermore the guidance notes that came with the form seemed to assume a level of understanding that was far greater than mine. Luckily I found this book on Amazon - there is no way I could have filled in my tax return accurately without it!

It is packed with information on tax matters for small businesses and it is clearly written with loads of examples to help explain the various calculations. I found the sections on expenses, capital allowances and working from home especially helpful as I was ... Read More:

I never forget my Office and Information Studies course at school, and being taught how to do a professional business letter layout. I wondered where my teachers learnt it. By chance I stumbled across this book in the language school where I now work. We have to prepare students for various tests, and I nearly wept with joy when I found the example of how to type a modern business letter, and it was the exact same layout as I remember from school! This is the updated version, and includes a lot more about email, as it is now a part of everyday office culture.

The examples are clear and the language is modern. Shirley teaches us to use our modern spoken language (not slang) for letter writing, while still maintaining professionalism. She ... Read More:

We've heard about the loneliness of a long distance runner, well that's nothing compared to the loneliness of a social entrepreneur. Andrew Mawson is a great comforter - he does things because they are worth doing - a radical and profoundly subversive attitude to the world. Anyone who has rejected conventional employment and material security, to do something they believe in, will love this book.

Mawson describes a familar path of fulfilment and profound frustration. My experience is business- good - charities - bad, I'm so glad that Mawson agrees. If you 'make things happen', you seem to loose the ability to have a dialogue with councillors, think tanks and academics - Mawson explains why. He doesn't use statistics or quote from academic theorists, ... Read More:

This book really changed my approach to trading as it gives an invaluable traders view into the world of trading. John Carter is a full-time trader and fully understands just as much about the psychological aspect of trading as the technical. He gives a fascinating 'insiders' perspective on trading, he explains why some technical tools work really well, then at other times the same tools don't work at all, what causes the markets to act in the way they do, and how to devise a trading strategy that works for you.

John Carter gives a very honest appraisal of the world of trading, with some excellent insights into trader pyschology, as well as some superb and proven technical analysis techniques that he himself uses very successfully.

129.Essays on the Great Depression by: Ben S. Bernanke

Books : Essays on the Great Depression
There is no way that I can criticize this book. Bernanke is the Governor of the Federal Reserve and I am not, which there are good reasons for.

However, this book is his PhD thesis on the Great Depression of 1929 - 1934. Hence it is written as such and is relatively theoretical. Personally, unless you have a university background in economics, I would skip this book.

If you are interested in economics, by all means do give it a go. The book is extremely interesting in as much as it attempts to explain the causes of the Great Depression. Most economists are taught, teach and write about equilibia. Bernanke has chosen to write about a disequilibrium, which is much more challenging and even more interesting.
