I read this book due to the current economic climate and found it quite interesting.
I know nothing about stocks, shares and bonds so some of the book went over my head. It is quite easy to get the general gist of the story though and the sheer front these guys had was amazing (if it is all true).
How can anybody lose 4.5 billion in a few months is beyond me.
Interesting if you're in to Wall Street and the stock market.

Yet another management book that takes what we already know, dresses it up and then sells it back to us. Nothing new, nothing original, nothing worth paying for. Give it a miss!

Reading the latest review of this book, I literally had to leave my desk, walk over to the book shelf and check the title of the book I thought I'd read, because there was such a mismatch. But no mistake. It's just that I'm not able to associate the glowing praise of the reviews with what I have in front of me.

I bought it from Amazon with an open mind and was actually looking forward to it arriving in the post. It came and with great excitement I read the cracking testimonials from John Harvey-Jones, "Management Today" and others, and was thrilled by the way it described itself as "The world's bestselling book on persuasion".

But... it's full of hot air.

A lot of the content is stuff you will have seen before ... Read More:

This is an outstanding book to have in any executive library. It covers so much more than most other books, and I'd go so much as to say it is a must have / read for anyone studying management, or is on an MBA program, or is going into an executive post.

Well writen, covers topics clear and succinctly.

Money well spent.

This book is brilliant, and the perfect guide to get you started on the right foot with Spread Betting. Even if you do find some of the concepts a little tricky at first, stick with it, and all will become clear.

Some might think Malcolm is a little patronising or just pointing out the plain obvious at times, personally I just think he's thorough. 100% recommended!

This book is one of the better things I have read about the financial crisis. It's a nicely-written and clearly argued case against the efficent markets hypothesis (EMH) and the argument that left to their own financial markets will tend towards equilibrium. In fact a large part of the author's motivation for writing the book seems to be to drive a stake through the heart of the efficent markets hypothesis, which he sees as fundamentally wrong (no argument here!).

As such the book is broadly pro-Keynes, and very pro-Minsky. It takes as a given Minsky's view that markets are inherently unstable and will inevitably swing between boom and bust, and that the busts can be very bad indeed if no action is taken. The suggestion is that Minksy's financial ... Read More:

I was hoping that the book would identify some useful methodology for trading that could be used on the sporting exchanges. There are a few interesting ideas, but it does not deliver as a manual along the 'how to' lines. Perhaps I had an incorrect expectation - but if you want to identify usable mechanics to help your trading look elsewhere.

I bought this book only for one reason - to pass an upcoming June 2008 ACCA Paper P3 'Business Strategy' exam. And I did! I had only 9 days allocated for this paper so my only hope was this book. Its language is very understandable, though sometimes I felt that material is too much detailed (maybe because I hadn't much time).

With the book you receive access to an online content. At that time the content was incomplete and was partly lacking business case scenarios, but the tests module was perfect. For every chapter you have many multiple-choice questions and all your answers and results are being recorded. So you can easily see where an improvement required. Also you have an option to download mp3's summarizing the content of the book. You have also ... Read More:
