Since this book focuses on people it does not matter that it is ancient in Internet time. It was short of revolutionary when it was published and it still remains as an extremly good and eyeopening book as to how get people to work well in teams. The book brings out good ideas with very real cases, it does not give you a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms which is not necessarly a shortcoming since the book is meant to present it's ideas from a pragmatic viewpoint.

I would recommend this book for anyone working within software development and it should be a must for team leaders and project managers together with the books Death March & Mythical Man Month.

I deducted a star in my review of the First Edition of this book, partly because I could not find any reference to Brown's reckless - and deceitful - use of PFI schemes, which are kept "off balance".

No such doubts about the second edition, which makes it quite clear what benefits we would all get from an efficiently run government machine.

The staggering figure of £101 billion (page 19) is almost beyond comprehension, but illustrates New Labour's catastrophic failure to spend our taxes wisely and carefully.

This book is more important than ever, now that government has responded to the credit crunch - and looming recession - by racking up borrowing which, on 14 October 2008, The Independent reported to ... Read More:

The book: The book is a great utility for readers of degree level or lower to really grab an understanding of what differing topics in HR are roughly about, such as equality & opportunity within the work place or payment structures anything! a good solid book

the problem: The problem is only related to the book (kinda like a 7th cousin!) and that is to really succeed in your studies or in the workplace you must read wider range of texts as this book can only cover so much within a topic without making it too daughting!!

I've read parts of this book 4 or 5 times through, not only is it a brilliant read but provides undying insights into the mind of succesful traders. This was one of the first books I purchased on trading and over 40 books and a lot of profitable trades later, I rate it as the best read of them all. Once you pick this up you wont be able to put it down!

Definitely recommend buying this book. I bought it recently for my Business course because my Accounting teacher recommend that we all buy it and she was RIGHT! Very straight forward, and easy to follow especially for someone who doesn't really know accounting very well but want to read a book that wouldnt give you strong accounting words.

A MUST for Business student who are doing Accountings as one of thier modules.

I disagree with the other reviews. It's title says it all. The book covered a four week segment of an on-line course I am doing. To me it covers all of the areas in an informative and understandable way. It is not intended to be a bookeepers bible therefore does not go into detail of "T" accounts. Combined with good teaching, research and discussion it will certainly enable non-accountants to get a grasp of the subjects of accounting and finance.

I just read the book - cover to cover. It is very comprehensive and readable however I have a few gripes:

1. It reads like a book that has "evolved" and is somewhat "lumpy". Some bits are bang up-to-date - others are not; some bits are international some are very US domestic focussed; some bits are amazingly simple (does anyone not know what a direct debit is?) others are highly complex (efficient frontiers and linear programming).

2. The authors should acknowledge that not all CFOs are female and to use "she" in place of "he" whenever they refer to senior decision-makers in fictional companies is both unnecessary and patronising. Feminists will tell you, you've got this wrong - you could easily have used more neutral language ... Read More:

I found the book to be dry and it failed to make the subject of investing interesting. It covers a lot of financial products, providing reasonable detail in terms of the numbers, but its dull. The chapters don't flow very well and I found myself struggling to recall what I had just read.

I wouldn't recommend this as a introductory book to investing because it simply doesn't make the subject interesting like the motley fool series of books manages to. But it does give a certain amount of detail, that may make it useful as a reference text for the amateur investor.

This book gives a real incite into the fashion industry and, unlike many informative books, is a great read too. I couldn't put it down and found it really fascinating. Highly recommended.

Books : The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing
This is a book packed with information but unfortunately is a struggle for the new investor for two reasons: firstly the details given refer to the U.S. stock exchange and secondly many of the terms used have different meanings in the British finance system (try Googling the words to see what I mean). Even when they mean the same thing the author does not spend sufficient time defining them fully. Possibly a good book to read after aquainting yourself with the U.K. stock exchange first.
