I'm an experienced developer in HTML and CSS so I thought I'd try my hand at my first real programming and hop on the latest band wagon of Ruby on Rails. I boldy read my way through Chapters 1 and 2, having to refer to the web for definitions on acronyms I didn't know and re-read some of the particularly jargon-filled paragraphs that made assumptions about what I already knew thinking "Ok, it seems a bit tricky, but I understand the concepts so I'm sure I'll get the hang of it once I hit the real examples." I didn't even get to the real examples. The installation section is a real let-down. Pleased with book, exactly the level I needed, all layed out in a way that I like reference books to be. Well written and topics spread 50/50 between MediaWiki administration and end user. Worth the money and the wait for release date.

I am new to Business Analysis, but I have found this book extremely clear and readable. It is an excellent launch pad to thinking about and discussing the potential benefits and implementation concerns of SOA in your organisation. An excellent introduction to SOA.

If you want to get to grips with this subject this book is a great little read. You can either just plough through it, as it is an easy read, or go and look at all the links and tools he is referencing to get extra detail and clarity. If you don't have any other books on this subject, get this first. No, I don't know the author.

I notice another reviewer has criticised this book for not providing a quick "weekend" solution. To expect a quick-fix from the Microsoft inside-out series is a bit like taking the full, printed version of Encyclopaedia Britannica to help with a pub quiz! Where Microsoft's Inside Out series really scores over almost every alternative is in providing in-depth information, to the minutest level of detail. In this regard, the book is a superb reference for the professional developer and advanced user. It will enable you to look-up the complete detail on a specific aspect of the Access product, without needing to cross-reference other chapters. In this respect it may seem a little repetitive, but the benefit is that it is thorough. Read More:

Having often to advise clients on testing high-integrity systems, I have a list of books that I tend to recommend to them. I bought this text by Black to see whether I should add it to the list. I decided that I probably wouldn't - and certainly wouldn't for British clients. Some American authors clearly have no idea of the degree to which their style can sound crassly uneducated to British readers. Most of the time one can read through it but I found Black's style the most irritating I've encountered in many years. IMO his description of what is good and poor style in bug reports applies ironically to his own writing!
