I read this book during my first year at Uni and found it to be informative and useful. Although it can be dull in some parts it is a decent introduction to OO systems analysis. However do read other books on this subject to accompany this book.

I've read this book in connection with work-related stuff (pushing my little project at work) - I found this book more honest on dirty-laundry of software projects than usual books on project management. But here and there it was not enough for my needs, hence if you are new to software/systems project management and looking for more information - READ this book BUT don't stop on it, look for other books too.

This book tries to enforce good C++ programming practices, in particular design patterns, for options pricing, with a hands-on approach, concisely and clearly.

The main drawback is the lack of diagrams: when designing object oriented programs, you draw a lot of doodles (learned people call them "UML diagrams", but they are just doodles), that are useful to clarify your ideas and to communicate them. Why is there none? I checked other C++ finance books, and they all had the same problem -- if you plan to write yet another C++ finance book, you know what not to forget...

You are probably better off with a more general book about "good programming practices" (including, but not limited to, design patterns: Design Patterns, by E. ... Read More:

116.Code: The Hidden Language (DV-Undefined) by: Charles Petzold

Charles Petzold is an excellent writer, and he gets to grips with difficult material in a way that makes it accessible for the uninitiated. I have worked as a computer programmer for years, but, having grown up with 'high level' programming languages, most of the material here was new to me. The book will fill in some very important gaps for a lot of IT professionals. Meanwhile, it is perfectly readable for someone completely new to the subject (a couple of chapters will be tough going, but you'll get it if you persist).

Top marks.

Well before reading this book, i was a competent self taught php web developer who had not done any gui development at all.

The opportunity arose from one of my clients to re-develop there epos / erp system to bring it into the 21 century with a networked gui application which seamlessly connected with there website via web services(they had this old legacy system coded in fortran)

Know i took this challenge not knowing how i was going to do it but was given some ley way on time as i was charging half the amount another software company had quoted.

I knew python for speed of development was the way to go but what toolkit to go with it? i looked at qt and wxpython but decided on the more advanced features in qt.

now that you are a linq user that is a handy quick ref guide to get into the solution you need. Its Lambda expressions are good if you are also a user of NHibernate. This book will be of immediate use to people using LINQ SQL where the sql goes back to a traditional architecture; that is doing what you have always done but the LINQ way, thats upto page 50. From page 113 onwards this is all that you can do with XML and X-DOM. Linq makes RSS feeds a dream. The examples are in C# with pictures to show you want is happening.
This is not a theory book, but quick ref for any 3.5 C# developer.

I got one for each of my developers!
