there is a number of mistakes in the book
there are no exercises at the end of each chapter
there is no further guidelines on how to work with Macro, as there are no further explanation about functions, etc

however, the book clarifies clearly every objective of every chapter, so it helps us to understand why we do what the book shows us to do. It goes straight to the point.

this book is suitable for those who want to get a basic touch of Excel before moving on to advanced level.

If you're looking for a book to get you started with access then this is it.

Before I picked up this book I had no real knowledge of how to do anything with access and couldn't get my head around it. This helped no end and continues to do so, even now when i'm earning a living with access. Whilst it misses some key areas out in any reasonable detail. You really should get this and learn it as step 1. There are many steps still to take however this will get you going.

Steve McConnell gives a superb overview of 30 years of software estimation practices. The book is useful for both managers (to establish how well the company estimates software projects) and practitioners (with many pointers to literature with more in-depth discussions).

I liked in particular the clear distinction the book makes between estimates, targets and commitments. Also, the political minefield associated with estimates is discussed well. Another area which I liked very much is the emphasis on clarifying the assumptions on which the estimates were based.

Having said this, the book could be even better if it would explore deeper the following topics:

1) Who are permitted to estimate? The book loosely ... Read More:

I found this book to be an tremendous guide to Xcode 3, however it is not for the novice programmer or someone unfamiliar with objective c / Cocoa. It makes a perfect companion to Hillegass and fills in many of the blanks left by his (also excellent) book.

I have some understanding of Project but wanted to build on this as my knowledge is very limited. I bought this book expecting it to be full of interesting tips to get me on my way but found it consists much more of anecdotes and "project can do this" type statements without actually telling you the all important HOW.

Very dissapointing I dont feel as though I have learnt anything new from this book and I knew almost nothing about Project to start with .. You do the math.

How on earth are you supposed to prepare for an exam using a book full of glaring inacurracies and errors? This is made worst by the fact that the reader will typically be covering the topics for the first time, and hence be unaware of the many errors contained within. Left me with the impression that nobody had bothered to proof read the book.

Another issue I came across is that many pages are wasted simply reiterating the same information rather than simply referring back. Eg. having listed the main methods of the Stream class, is it really neccessary to relist those again for every single class that derives from Stream? Surely it would be enough to refer the reader back to the previous table.

Sadly, your options are limited if you're ... Read More:

Although the books gives you all the information you need, it's a lot easier to follow if you actually know UML2 in the first place! I found some of the chapters very dry with some of the definitions not 100% clear and some sentences definitely needed re-reading before making sense - a few parts only made sense once I got someone else (experienced in UML) to explain them to me. Despite this, the book does give good examples, the warnings/tips are well thought out and the chapter details are of a sufficient level for this book to be of practical use.

As a developer interested in SOA I bought this book hoping to learn about service design and best practices. I found this book very dry and did not feel that I got much from the book. It is the first book I have bought that I have not completed. (I got 3/4 of the way before losing the will to read.)
