I don't wanna say how good it is. If you are trying to learn Seam 2, this is the only bible so far. seam-gen, lifecycle, context, component management, persistence, absolute-inversion, oh and using AJAX and JSF. Everything you need to be a Seam master. HIGHTLY RECOMMENDED!

This book is great introduction to UML 2.0. Its written for OO developers and all examples are Java which fit me to a T but may not suit everyone. The style is good with lots of examples and each chapter can be read independently if you just need to refresh yourself about a certain diagram.

I read this book whilst on holiday (had my laptop with me, but managed not to turn it on). The first part is a gentle intoduction to algorithms. There's little or no mathematics, but the concepts are well covered. The second part is the catalog, which seemed to live up to its name.

I bought this book at the same time as PHP 6 and MySQL 5 for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide (Visual QuickPro Guides) (which has been great) and Mysql Crash Course (Sams Teach Yourself) (which is a useful reference). I'd already developed one successful website using ASP.net, and had started to learn a few little bits of php from the web. This book was the worst of my 3 purchases by a long way. It's just so boring! It was the first book I started with (because the outside looks nicest!) but inside it's just dull and badly laid out. The author may be technically competent but he rarely uses one word when he could squeeze in 3 or 4 instead. The code is annotated by comments in the lsitings, but these aren't really detailed ... A very clearly written and concise book, which is something of a rarity in these days of monster tomes full of words and little information! I'm using Lua to extend a number of applications, and am using this book to help me figure-out how to do it. Highly recommended.

It has to be said that this is a nicely presented book - glossy, colourful. Curiously for a book about interaction/usability i found parts of it hard to read - i actually got lost on one page as to which was the next piece of text to read. (Bit ironic!) My real dissatisfaction with the book lies in its lack of meaty content. I have been designing and coding UIs for many years but i expected to pick up some insights. I don't think i learned anything - it is all mere common sense. I had hoped for more. If this is the best UI book at the moment, then I'll save my money and not buy another. Maybe if you are new to the subject you will find it informative.

As an experienced project manager I can recommend this book to those working on their first IT projects. It gives a high level overview of the key areas such as planning, testing and risk management. Although subjects are not dealt with in any great depth there is enough there to stop you falling in to the common pitfalls of IT projects. If you have more experience in IT project it may fill a few gaps in but not to the depth you probably require.
