I'd have liked to give this book 10 stars. I wrote a few version 1 Compact Framework applications but have had a 3 year break. I started an application targeted at Windows Mobile 5 and have been looking around for a more recent Compact Framework book for a while. This book has come along just in time and is by far the best Compact Framework book I've seen. It's not aimed at beginners and is not the usual rehash of the Help. It's aimed at professional developers and helps to solve many of the real world problems so often overlooked by .Net books. I will definitely be looking out for other books by these authors.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

It's surprising what little gems you pick up when you pick up a book and go throught the pages. This one is excellent. I had expected huge diagrams, little text and loads of white space. Far from it. Nicely laid out. Informative pictures and text. It even has sections on some of the blogging tools that you can use like Ecto. Again, informative if brief.

As an ex-IT Trainer I know the value of graphics. If you don't learn something from this then you never opened the cover. Try it. It's good.

I've passed my MCTS web-client development certification last week with flying colours. Credit goes to this book. It beautifully covers every topic. It covers Mobile web development which normally does not cover by most ASP.NET books.

For exam preparations I would also strongly suggest looking at Transcenders or TestKing practice test to get ready for the big day.

Continuous Integration refers to the practice of automating the build, testing and deployment of your software, so that producing a finished executable (and the related artifacts) can be done at the touch of a button, and is ideally carried out several times a day.

If this seems like a nice to have feature of your own development, but less of a core practice when compared to version control and comprehensive tests (both of which are requirements for doing CI), this book does a pretty good job of advocating CI as being just as important.

First, the book introduces the core practices of CI (regular builds, tests, and deployment), then goes on to demonstrate how it facilitates other, more advanced practices, which gain value ... Read More:

I'm not a professional programmer, but a hobbyist, yet this book was not only fascinating but has enabled me to write better programs and above all think more about what I'm doing. It's for hobbyists who have got beyond the normal how to books, and want to know how to do it well. If you're an amateur who wants to become more professional, this book is for you too.

Very easy to understand with a visual style that makes the material seem to stick (at least with my brain). If you are less visually orientated then it may not work for you but I found it easier to digest than other titles on the subject if slightly less "deep"

This book is NOT a good book for learning or referencing UML.

The authors have a terrible writing style, the wording and struture is awful, which makes it incredibly difficult to read, and follow.
Whilst the fluency is none existent.

The diagrams and examples are random, there is no noticable theme, and the introduction to some complex diagrams follows a 'deep end' & 'thrown in' approach.

In all I can see no reason for this book. If you are learning UML it is far too unhelpful, if you require a reference look elsewhere.
