VEry useful book for my first year cognition lectures, and it's been recommended as a core text for 2nd year aswell. Readable, and not too complex to understand.

Since infants are more aware of contrast than color in the beginning, I 'read' this book with my daughter from the time she was four months old through about her first year. Cover to cover, I read the words (title and book description, which almost hypnotically became part of the experience!) and described the pictures, sometimes tracing them with a finger. Our interaction with the small book was cuddly and verbal, as the images served as guides. She had her favorites, and the book is well-worn, chewed in places. It was a daily gentle activity, holding her interest, obviously delighting and stimulating, and paved the way for more and more books. Personally I prefer it to the White on Black, and always give it as part of a gift packet ... Read More:

Let me first say that anyone interested in sexual psychology should read this work. An unprecedented collection of the sexual thoughts, desires, fears and, of course, fantasies from women in 70's USA and UK.
However, it is more a book concerned with erotic fantasy rather than an erotic read, despite being promoted as such on many adult sites. Many of the accounts are from women who had anxieties & inhibitions about their sexuality, or failings in their relationships, which comes across in their accounts as pathetic & sometimes pitiful revelations. Most are written in a bland & unarousing style when compared to much of today's literature. This was an era where women's sexual confidence was still embryonic, the fact that some can ... Read More:

Just get it. It'll cost you a penny second hand, and it's well worth it. I mean just look at the fact there are 38 reviews to it's name!

But beware, he's going to talk about God. That's right, a psychotherapist talking about God. He only does so however in the last section and by then you've got enough benefit from it to throw it away with a smile and no resentment, no matter how hardened an atheist you are.

I fully agree about the quality of this book's content. It is also a quality paperback and therefore quite heavy: don't buy it from the sort of seller who uses flimsy jiffy bags if you like your books in good condition!

Seven years ago my mother insisted I'd read this title because it had helped her so much - in hindsight, it makes so much sense she'd need it.

So I read it with great discomfort as I regarded each story to be worse than the preceding one. I could simply not relate to these women's horror stories. Why would they allow such behaviours? How could they choose to stay in such relationships? How crazy can one be?

Well, at the time I was in deep denial regarding my own childhood and adolescence so there was little chance that I would have related to these women.

Seven years down the road -and many painful experiences with unavailable men and unrequired love- I decided to give this book another chance. In particular, I suspected that ... Read More:

I've read this book four times and what still strikes me is Marshall Rosenberg's assertion that we are always trying to meet our basic human needs. I've been trying to relate to myself and other people in this way now for several years, and I've found that I really am more deeply connected with myself, my partner, my children and the people around me. I'm still working on the language part.

I doubt any review could do this book justice. It is a rare thing: a book that is both powerful & deep . . . AND light and joyous; it is both well written, so that reading it is a pleasure, and thought-provoking and even challenging, such that we might need to allow many weeks if not months to allow it's messages to sink in.

Matthieu admits that he is a happy man and this shines through in every chapter. So too does both his knowledge and life experiences of both scientific and Buddhist thinking and practice. His ability to blend these two, often apparently contradictory schools, into a coherent and convincing approach to his subject is a special talent. Besides achieving all this in 'A guide to developing life's most important skill' (the sub-title) this true sage ... Read More:
