I loved this book and many of my clients do too. This is a sweet story about Toad on the road to recovery from 'depression'. This book should be a companion to anyone that is having counselling or psychotherapy using Transactional Analysis. Highly recommended.

I have had this book for a long time and along with most Childcare students consider it a must have, so was surprised to find it had only four stars on Amazon. I had to look! It transpires that the people who gave it less than five stars mostly had bought the wrong book for their purposes! Shouldn't a book be marked for it's quality for it's designated purpose? If that was the case this would always get 5 stars! The key to the books popularity, and suitability for it's purpose lies in it's full title; Child Development, An Illustrated Guide. It doesn't claim to be a book on development theory, or a book just for the early years, it is best used in alongside other more theoretical books. Why do some people not bother to read covers of books ... Read More:

Bought this today, but finished it quickly, as it's quite tiny. However, I thought it was lovely - some bits were funny or quaint, but to disagree with the other reviewer, I thought a lot of the advise was actually still very good and worth thinking about.

Maybe not one for the feminists, but not as old-fashioned as you might think either; much of the advise is basically about treating your wife with respect and thoughtfulness (which I must say, I'd prefer to being treated as another man any day!). I can't wait to get started on the one for wives now :)

This book was given to me when I started in the advertising industry and has inspired me to push myself creatively and to challenge everything. The book presents a high risk high gain strategy of managing your career by thinking out of the ordinary. I think as a direct result of reading this book I have used the presentation that my boss deemed 'too different' and questioned the norm on a daily basis, which has so far worked out well for me!!

Although this book is obviously been aimed at the creative industries, a couple of my friends read it when we were on holiday (a doctor and farmer) and they seemed to take away as much from it as I did. Takes about 20 minutes to read and leaves you feeling motivated and chomping on the ... Read More:

55.Emotional Intelligence: Why it Can Matter More Than IQ: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by: Daniel Goleman

This book gets off to a good start, but then falls into the Maslow trap of when you've got a hammer, you see every problem as a nail. By the end of the book I thought 'emotional intelligence' was a pretty weedy phenomemon and there was far too much doom and gloom in the book.

One of my favourite books of all time is The Anatomy of Melancholy by Robert Burton. Most of the stuff in Burton (written over 400 years ago) is covered by Goleman. Only Goleman dresses it up as the latest scientific research.

Things like reliving trauma as a way of purging it were intriguing. By the end I was skipping pages so I could take it to the charity shop.

I think this author must have laughed all the way to the bank in amazement that people could actually swallow this story. I definitely found it hard to swallow, however, I persisted and finished it as I had heard it was worth a read. The story is totally unbelievable with little to offer in relation to inspiration. A five year old may find parts of this book interesting! There are plenty of great spiritual books to buy... so don't buy this one.

This is a really poor book. It does describe and define Social Anxiety well, but its written by some woman who has never suffered social anxiety and hasn't a clue how to overcome it.

I worked out the answer to overcome social anxiety myself after 4 years of working on it, seeing therapist, hypnotherapist, buying these books. And the answer to beating and overcoming SA is not mentioned whatsoever in this book.

The writer of this book thinks overcoming it is just testing yourself and focusing on postives, its absolute nonsense.

I believe therapist and writers like Gillian Butler are stealing a living, not one of them knows the answer, hence why so many people never overcome this problem. I know the answer and one day I'll ... Read More:

I was surprised to learn that the Greeks did not have a theory of probability. Their belief "that the future unfolded according to the will of the gods" and their taste for "absolute truth" did not encourage the study of chance. Where pristine philosophy failed, the more grubby pastime of gambling succeeded in motivating probability theory. And, in true statistical style, it only took a handful of gamblers out of a large enough sample to get things going.

Today we might as well be Greeks for all that we understand or even recognize uncertainty. Even if we do not share the view that everything happens for a reason, it is still easy to ignore the role chance plays in our lives. We humans, with our big brains and clever language and propensity for story ... Read More:
