A change in direction with not only retirement but marriage proposals as well for my most loved fictional character. With all of the Fairacre books, a book I have read over and over - only with particular sadness as it appears that this may be the final book. I found the illustrations a bit off putting - part of my love of Miss Read's books are due to J Goodall's beautiful illustrations - not that these are bad, just not what previous readers may be used to. My only complaint is that it is too short!

This is a review for Blood Canticle and Blackwood Farm as i think they must be treated as one.

This book along with the Blackwood Farm is fantastic and part of the most amazing series of books I have ever read. I never normally do customer reviews but these books and chronicles have made me feel I had to say something about the bad reviews for these two final books of Anne Rice's Vampire chronicles as these reviews nearly put me off completing the chronicles which I am ashamed I ever considered doing.

I can not understand how people who have read all the other books can not take these books with the same love and appreciation that they surely felt for the previous books. Now I do agree with some of the comments made that Blackwood ... Read More:

I love all the characters in this family series and in this book, the first pair of lovers; Serena Macgregors and Justin Blade were fantastic! She was so alive and he was so determined to have her. She was definitely attracted to him as well, but was not too pleased when she found out that her father had a hand in arranging their meeting! The second story was between Caine and Diana; both were lawyers; was just as captivating! Diana, Justin's sister was invited by Serena to visit them and mend the distance between her and her brother. She met and fell in love with Caine, Serena's brother! I love Nora Roberts!

Charmed is the third in the Donovan Triligy and this time it's Anastasia's story. Ana is an empath and healer and likes to live a quiet life making her remedies, that is until Boone Sawyer moves in next door with his 6 year old daughter Jessica. Ana is immediately smitten with the little girl, but in true Nora Roberts style, it takes a little while longer for the romance to blossom with Boone. I loved this novel and felt that it was a little more in depth than the previous two (which I still enjoyed hugely), and focused more on the whole family than just one member.
Enchanted was possibly an afterthought as it is a very different story than the first three, but that's not to say it isn't worth the reed. It's Liam's turn in this one - and his femme fatale will prove ... Read More:

Highly entertaining and thought provoking. In the Ground Beneath her Feet, Rushdie brilliantly examines the distinction between reality and our socially-skewed perception of it. By using the most artificial modern-day construct, Rock 'n'Roll, as a metaphor for society, Rushdie underlines the fragility of cultural existence.

But if you can't be doing with semiology, The Ground Beneath Her Feet also provides a rollicking tour through popular culture. With witty associations and an abundant imagination, Rushdie comes up with a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

When I first bought this book I began to read it but I found I could not get into it.
However, after reading Interview with the Vampire and becoming so enthralled in that, I decided to give it another go.
I found it heavy going at first, and again in parts where the history was being recounted but soon I found I could not put the book down. I would get to the end of a chapter and think "just one more" to the point where I would look up from the book and find it was the early hours of the morning. I became completely entranced with her descriptions of New Orleans and all the sights, sounds and smells therein as well as the complex lives weaved for the characters and their backgrounds. I have since experienced this feeling with all of Anne Rice's books from the vampire chronicles ... Read More:

i did like the story of shelby and alan, the contrast between them worked wonderfully. but the second story was so dismal, i'm surprised that the same author wrote it! the mcgregor's were represented in such a stereotypical way that gave them no depth or emotion but made them act like puppets. the actual love story was a little far fetched and just seemed too unrealistic to work. i KNOW it's a love story and meant to take you into dream land but i actually ended up not liking either of the main characters. i absolutely loved her original mcgregors stories. serena and caine really took me into their stories, you felt you were right there with them, laughing together and crying togther. but i just did not care what happened to grant or gennie, the story just seemed superficial and a half hearted attempt ... Books : Set In Darkness
Having been a bit disappointed with the last couple of Ian Rankin books I have read but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I sometimes wish there were not so many story lines in one book but this one was reasonable easy to follow and with a good ending. John rebus is a good creation.
