the only reason that i did not enjoy reading this book is because its very different to the current script of the musical blood brothers, there is and alternative ending in this book and only features the lyrics to one song: (marilyn monroe) the book is quite shot and misses a great deal out om the present day perfomance of blood brothers, do not buy if you are wanting to experience the laughter and great lines from the current outstanding performance of blood brothers.

For all that I have a history degree and have studied various periods and aspects of history quite extensively, I have always struggled to get a clear understanding of which Irish hero or villain did what. Whom exactly was Cromwell fighting against when he paid his historic visit in the early 1650s? What was Wolfe Tone, a man now honoured by a statue at one corner of St Stephens Green, actually fighting for? Which of the many battles were sectarian, which for the whole of Ireland? Etc.

A friend recommended Rutherfurd's Ireland Awakening, and I am writing this review to say that his recommendation was spot on. As soon as I had finished reading the book I passed it on to my wife. She went further than me, in that as soon as she had ... Read More:

I have read a lot of the Rebus books and always think that one of the great things that Ian Rankin manages to do by the end of the novel is tidy up and close off the main subject but keep enough ends still loose to feed into the next book, encouraging you to pick up another one.
This Rebus story is an interesting one as he is in London. He misses home all the time and makes lots of comparisons between his surroundings and experiences with Scottish equivalents - this I think is written as a comfort for Rebus as well giving a familiar reading experience to the reader.
I always think that Rebus is older than he actually is. The book is written in the early 90s and he is in his early 40s but seems to think that chilli and lasagne are something ... Read More:

This book was brilliant, in my review for IWTV I said that was the best book I had ever read, but this was better.
The first part of the story is all about Lestat's journey and how he became what he is, very much Louis's story in IWTV but was written so much better than Louis's. I love how Ms Rice writes this character and I found Lestat amazing to read about, i just couldnt put the book down. I have also read Queen of the Damned and that is also a wonderful book, but for me of the 3 books in the vampire chronicles, this one stands out the most. I loved finding out why Lestat was the way he was in IWTV and you really understand why after reading this.
The films that were made are brilliant but are nothing compared to the books, these are def something ... Read More:

56.The Pagan Stone (Sign of Seven Trilogy (Jove Books)) by: Nora Roberts

Books : The Pagan Stone (Sign of Seven Trilogy (Jove Books))
Warning - spoiler
"The Pagan Stone", book 3 in the "Sign of Seven" - trilogy by the sensational Nora Roberts is my personal highlight in the series, there could not have been a better way to finish what was started in "Blood Brothers" and continued in "The Hollow". The book is a really intense , sometimes sweet, sometimes sexy and an always thrilling read.
In "The Pagan Stone" the six friends (Cal, Fox, Gage, Quinn, Layla and Cybil) are preparing for the finale fight to destroy the evil that Gage, Cal and Fox set free unintentionally 21 years ago. For both sides, the good and the evil, it's a now or never situation and the six know that if they don't succeed this time there will be no next chance. But there is hope because for the first time the three men ... Read More:

I bought this book for Irvine Welsh's contribution, but was interested to read the others. I've not read Rankin or McCall Smith before, so didn't know what to expect from them.

Overall - it's a good little book for a fairly quick read. I enjoyed all three stories - espcially Welsh's, although I am biased. All fairly unusual tales, with a good mix of style. It's a shame JK Rowling didn't contribute a story - her intro is interesting, but very short.

Yet another fabulous Nora Roberts book. The two stries are great reads. A perfect intro book for anyone not an avid reader of Nora's. The second story was read in hours un put downable. Made me get straight on line to buy the new few and I have already read alot. She won't be able to write them fast enough for me at this rate.

This is a great novel that is slightly more coherent than the first and one that can easily be read on it's own. The story is really good and kept me turning those pages and had some of the great premises from the first book, as well as other ideas explored. Well worth giving a go if you enjoyed the original book, and an easier read if you tried and didn't like the first one.
