I actually picked this book up first in a second hand shop. It's a wonderful story of a young man negotiating adolescence and both being and perceiving that he is misunderstood; a reflection of the way adults so often turn the most innocent of things into something lewd and inappropriate; and that all important message that to 'fit in' is for many of us impossible and therefore we should feel freed to be who we are. Raymond is a funny and poignant character and made me both laugh, and not just cry, but actually sob.

One of my favourite books.

Ann Rice has done it again. This book covers the life of the Vampire Armand. Armands story touchs on all of the other books Vampires we have been introduced to in the previous 5 books. And intergrates them well. The book starts off strong and ends weak. You will not want to put this book down for the first two-thirds. I espically love the parts when we follows Armands life as a Vampire in Venice. And we follow him to Rome where we learn how he becomes the master of the Paris Coven. After this there is long jumps in history. Of course, it leaves us needing more books....for the story is obviously not over...

A very disappointing read. I found Julia's character to be unbelievable as was her relationship with Paul. I enjoy a good romance but this was not it; the passages describing their lovemaking made me cringe. Most of the other characters were stereotypical, lacking depth and originality. The story itself was laughingly melodramatic and it was quite an effort to stick with it to the end. This was not my first Nora Roberts book but I fear it will be my last.

Previous books have worked well but like other reviewers almost stopped reading.
The Britsih are stiff upper lip fools,The Argetinians great tactically. The Russions are there just for fun and the Americans are clever and smart and can solve all problems with a little Special Force.
The book gets so many views wrong....
The Falklands will never ever be forgotton by the British and in a modern World with the Internet.Newspapaers TV the original premise to could not occur.
The biggest problem is the fact the British in this situation would do what we always do and that is to use Cunning and deceptiion to regain the Falklands not some silly Naval mission. How about Cruise Missiles up the Presidents Residence

66.A Little Magic by: Nora Roberts

I bought this on the strength of another recommendation and wanted to reddress the balance. I am a fan of buffy-esque type novels and have read (and really enjoyed) the barbed coil as recommended by another reviewer. I also enjoy a regular dose of regency romance.

BUT I gave up on this book. I know reading is about personnel choice but this was truly dire. Sorry!

I hadn't realised just how good a writer Robert Rankin was until I heard this wonderful dramatisation back in 2003. The Audio Antipope is an eight-CD set, running to a little under ten hours, bravely complete and unabridged. Full cast list included after the review here...

I had previously read and loved some of the later Brentford novels, of course, but nothing in fact from the seminal pair of volumes that started it all. I specifically link 'The Antipope' and 'The Brentford Triangle' in this way, of course, for two startlingly good reasons. First, about one-third of the 'Antipope' ms had to be culled before Pan would publish it, and much of this material found its way into the sequel. Second, this abundence of preparation, combined with Robert taking ... Read More:

This was a very good 'whodunnit' as the conclusion was kept well hidden and the pace didn't let up throughout. The 'professionals' in the text were well scripted and believable and the general plotline was very well crafted.
Has definately tempted me to try her other titles...

It's not a bad book, it's just not that great, and it being Rankin, you do expect something far more than half-decent. And that's all this book is really, half-decent. Compared to most of the Rebus books, it's very thin on the ground plot-wise. Most of the characters are fairly forgettable; though the premise of the heist is not without interest. It's still the page turner we have come to expect from Rankin, but you get the feeling you know what is coming on the next page. To some extent this is true of any author you get used to reading - you get to know the style and way they tell a story. You knew with the Rebus novels that the loose ends would tie up at the end somehow, but not much of an idea how. In this book, the only suspense at the end is over who will be screwing ... As a long-standing fan of Ian Rankin and his Rebus series, I was looking forward to Exit Music with mixed feelings. All good things must come to an end - but how would Rankin bring his magnificent sequence of Rebus novels to a satisfying conclusion?

Exit Music is terrific right up to the end - when for me it went all wrong. The pace, plotting and dialogue rattle along nicely - and enough scope is left by Rankin to bring Rebus back investigating cold cases, or to elevate DI Clarke to a more prominent role in future books. And then something happens and the book ends in a most unsatisfatory manner. The plot is brought to a - frankly - disappointing conclusion, the main storyline collapsing in on itself, and the major protaganists Rebus and Cafferty left at an unsatisfactory ... Read More:
