This piece of seventies nostalgia presents some very interesting information, and while not being entirely accurate, for the most part it is. It presents a view of meterphorical revolution in the ways the masses think, and although the books has been let down by the inclusion of junk like bannana skins causing hallucinations etc. The book is very clear and as Powell the author says it is not for morons OR people lacking COMMON SENSE.

On the whole it has been a worthwhile purchase, and anyone who is niether stupid or severely lacks common sense will get themselves killed using this book. If you are into the modern fringe movement, which includes the topics of drugs, weapons and explosives I advise that you buy this book.

This book is a little pricy for 59 pages. However if you are commited to your studies or general interest in this area then it is a worthwhile and good value buy. My advice is to buy it only if you are really interested in this period.

"I am convinced that Castell's work is the most illuminating, imaginative and intellectually rigorous account of the major features and dynamics of the world today." [Prof. F Webster; Theories of the Information Society, 2nd Edition; Pg.97]

"Adam Smith explained how capitalism worked and Karl Marx explained why it didn't. Now the social and economic relations of the Information Age have been captured by Manuel Castells." [GP Zachary; Wall Street Journal ; 1 October 1998]

PS: I disagree with the other reviewer re. it's style and content. It is not difficult to read.

Books : A Dictionary of English Folklore
I have read issues of the Folklore journal, and have always been allured by the true origins of folklore, rather than the fanciful relics of ancient practice theories. It's a shame people still believe in this type of theorising whereby one explanation can be stretched to explain everything from corn dollies to the rising price of fish, but hopefully books like this might counterbalance the trend. I find the main culprits are to be found in the fields of neo-paganism, where all too many authors accept & propagate complete rubbish about the past.

This book is an excellent resource of folklore, much of which I have been brought of with or come across. This book has contributed greatly to an understanding of the reasons behind so ... Read More:

This clear, concise book is a god-send for the student (or general reader alike) interested in carrying out a sociology-based research project. The text is lively, enthusiastic, laying emphasis, through the voice of many experts, on the best ways to carry out a social investigation.

Although the text is hard going in a few places with an occasional assumption of prior knowledge, its strategically placed references to real world research and well-thought out case studies make this a student-essential reference book.

Definitely one to keep on the shelf and dip into!

This book has cleared a muddled mind (in relation to quantitative analysis anyway). Highly recommended for anyone who is becoming more and more stressed about statistical analysis etc. and isn't getting any joy from anywhere. Reading this got me out of a mathematical rut. It sets everything out in understandable categories, is nicely layed out(not too crammed in)and is written in plain English. The Author sorts it all out for you. Thank you so much Mr. Author!!!
