If you search on youtube for "the art of looking sideways" you'll come across a 10 minute interview with the late Alan Fletcher. The man was clearly a visionary and apparently loved his Mac ;-) If you're not into graphic design that much (like me) yet you're into philosophy or psychology, marketing or coaching, leadership or teaching or any other field where the human condition is front & center you'll still find lots of wonderful things in this book, if only by reading the quotes and the stories. This book has been created by a discovering man, a collecting man and especially a listening and thinking man. He supposedly worked 18! years on this book. This history was unexpectedly fascinating for a reader mainly interested in travelling on trains.Christian Wolmar hold your attention by showing how the history of the train in the uk affected so many aspects of ordinry people's lives. It is also a cler exposition of how the trains got to be in the state they are. The sources are well referenced and I am looking forward to reading 'Railwaywomen'.

I bought this book for all 3 of my children, my 4 God children and my children's school. It is beautifully illustrated and each of the human rights are worded so that children can understand them. It is the sort of book that you hope that if your children become parents, they will pass their copy onto their children. Some people have a family bible; I believe that this is as important if not more so.

We bought this as a Christmas present for our little boy, and have unpacked it and switched it on tonight to check it. We have bought many things from Amazon over the years, and good though everything has been, this is the first time we have felt inclined to leave feedback. Fantastic! Just an absolute delight. Larger and more detailed than we expected, beautiful to look at, especially when switched on and the sea life becomes visible (haven't worked out how it does that, but am resisting the temptation of taking it apart to find out), robust, well made and with plenty for a small child to find interest in. Very good, very funny,just perfect! The fun thing is that you can read it with your mates and all laugh together. For that reason the book never leaves my coffee table. Highly recommended!

OK, the product description is not very clear at all, and this is indeed a "fancy journal". However, it is a useful, if not essential tool for users of the Law of Attraction. And it looks nice. There are tips and quotes dotted around the book, but we have to fill it in ourselves to make it 'work'. This just wouldn't be the same with a 99p student notepad from the newsagent. It wouldn't keep you in the right frame of mind. I've had my Gratitude Book about a week now, and already its cost seems insignificant for such a great investment. If you still think it's expensive; I noticed in WHSmith's the other day that lined notebooks (the kind one would buy for a special purpose) of identical construction and similar design ... I have been using the seat61 website since 2002 and it has helped me plan loads of fab train trips - to Budapest, Berlin, Granada, Lisbon, Rome and others. Now the book means I can continue planning from the comfort of my Saturday morning lie in, dreaming the morning away! Not just Seat 61 - he deserves a seat in the House of Lords!

"Eating for England" is a Pick n' Mix of a book. Read it all in one go and it gets repetitive and downright indigestible. But there are a few sweet and well-written little pieces within that make the book worthwhile. I would not really recommend this to anyone under 30 or over 65: and if you are the sort of person who is quickly bored by 40-somethings reminiscing about BBC children's programs of the 1960s or long-vanished crisp flavours, then you should give it a miss, too. Where Nigel Slater's book rises above the standard nostalgia-trip, it does so because he can write well on occasions and his genuine love of food comes through.
