This book sets such a high, scholarly standard that most other works on the topic seem but pale reflections. If you are pursuing your own research, you should start with this volume as it forms the foundation of all study on the subject. Geoff Stray seems to have an unparalleled understanding of all aspects of this complex subject. It is a challenging read, but well worth the effort. The illustrations - several of which Geoff did himself - serve as essential tools to clarify the text.

I remember a friend gave this book to me and when i read it I felt life made a little more sense. It is amazing to think we think we have free will and we can change things, but we choose not to. I have read this book maybe a hundred times and it seems always fresh everytime. The book is probulay one of the 20th century classics. I have bought it for a few friends over there years and they have passed the message on "life is an illusion".
The main plot is about a byplane pilot that befriends a messiah that walked out on the job and decided to give rides for dollars in his byplane around the midwest of america. Thoughout the journey the author discovers the true meaning of the universe and you are swept away by the lessons that you learn along ... Read More:

The usual monotheistic dominance: a single all knowing god. I've spent a lifetime trying to get away from people who want a monotheistic god - who just happens to be what they want him / her to be. I don't mind people wanting this - but Kelly could put that on the cover and I will happily steer clear. But (as usual) the assumption seems to be that everyone will believe and want what Kelly believes. I guess my starting point is to say I have beliefs and it is very unlikely that they will be other people's. I think that mediation / self hypnosis has something to offer people who are different to me. I can respect how they are and what they believe. If only Kelly and Christians were capable of the same.

A Course in Miracles is the most powerful work that I have come across to help us bring about real spiritual progress in ourselves. It works by carefully deprogramming dogma and rigid belief, gradually teaching how to let go of perceptions and see truth.

It's easy to get discouraged with it, because it can be very difficult to take in what the book is saying, but if you persist, gradually you find your way of thinking has changed, and you are living more freely and seeing the world quite differently.

It is broken down into three sections. There's the text, the workbook and finally the manual for teachers. The first time I studied it, I read the text and did the daily exercises in the workbook together. That took a little ... Read More:

This allegorical tale of a Brahmin's son who gives up everything in the search for his self is, in my opinion, one of the masterpieces of the 20th century. The story is short and clear, with one foot in Buddhism and another in Modernism. The first time I read this book (during one sitting in a Toronto cafe), I fell in love with it. Now, after reading it for the second time, I feel as if it will be the book I keep by my side, through out my life, for whenever I need to be comforted.

If you feel lost, depressed, unhappy or unsure about life in general, this book is worth a thousand self-help tomes injected into your blood.

This is a book that leaves you feeling so uplifted. It makes you want to do something more in life.It is so beautifully written, and O'Donohue has some of his own poems in there. One is called the Blessing of Presence it's just lovely to read. One passage will stay with me, it goes as follows."If you have everything the world has to offer you, but you do not have love, then you are the poorest of the poorest of the poor. How true. This is a remarkable book. It was so sad to learn of O'Donohue's sudden death in jan of this year aged 52, he died in his sleep.

"God" is clearly important enough to have generated a vast plethora of literature for and against "Him".

Whilst quite clearly presented and logical, Hitchens axiomatic basis for existence is for physical "obersvability" in some sense. Yet this is the the longest standing argument of asthestic philosophy, not something new.

I would love to see Hitchens expand his axiomatic basis for existence to encompass arguments that were new and more convincing that 'I cannot see(observe)' so 'I dont believe'

Our own existence is confounding enough - I am not sure humanity has truly solved this mystery. Why are we self aware? Who and what are we?
All this before what is "God"?

The Hidden Messages in Water helped prove my theory of the interconnectedness among all life that I wrote about in my book, Harmonious Envrionment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home & Your Planet.

An excellent example of how our thinking and feeling can institute change comes from Dr. Masaru Emoto's study. Emoto's experiments show how powerfully your thoughts can affect your physical environment. In his book, The Hidden Message in Water, Emoto demonstrates how water will change form in response to thought.

Emoto mentally projected love to a bottle of water, which was then frozen and the ice crystals were photographed. The crystals were beautiful, clear and symmetrical.

Next, Emoto allowed the water in the bottle to melt and directed hate ... Read More:

There are many good points in this book but the author is going completely wrong in his negative view of working mothers. Study after study has now clearly shown that children are happiest when the mother is happiest - whether working or at home. The uncomfortable truth is: Staying at home with a young child can be torture. Incredibly boring, irritating and stressful. And to top it off - you will be despised for being 'just a housewife' by the rest of society. Has Biddulph himself ever tried it for any length of time? I very much doubt it because otherwise his views might be a bit more compassionate - and better researched.

This is Coelho's first book, written before he became famous and before the Alchemist. I was impressed by the Alchemist, 11 Minutes and the Zahir but I was bemused and trully horrified by this supposedly true story. I think it shows how traditional religion can distort people's perception of reality and led me to doubt Coelho's intelligence and sanity. It made me concerned that others might be persuaded to explore Christian mystic sects and take superstition seriously or even attempt to copy some of the extreme techniques in the book which seemed to describe Coelho engaging with demonic voices in his head... Does he suffer from schizophrenia? I think it shows how organised religion can be damaging and how people can be taken in by cults. Dangerous rubbish.

Reading this book as a "true story" which is what ... Read More:
