When I was reading the book from Daniel Dennett, a distinguished philosopher and director of Cambridge institute for cognitive studies, I was expecting to get some answers for questions why do humans believe in any deity or superstition.

Questions like:
- Why 80% of the world population so faithful to some kind of religion ?
- How can this be explained by psychology ?
- Is there a specific genetic predisposition for more religious behavior (nature not nurture) ?
- How is religion replacing the parental love with love for God from a specific age (7-years ?) on ?
- Why is rationality suppresses and what happens then in the brain ? (Like a scientists is writing his PhD for geology and study 500 million ... Read More:

Dan Millman's "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" is a wonderful adventure! It's a fun story, as the main character, Dan, meets an enlightened teacher, Socrates, who shares insight on living life with ease, and free from the limiting thoughts of the mind. It's an engaging story line as Dan's world shifts from the ordinary to the extraordinary. I love how Dan Millman has created a novel that teaches with enlightening wisdom.

As Dan Millman's character, Socrates, shares stories and jewels of wisdom that helped Dan find new meaning in his life, I have found that Ariel and Shya Kanes' books have done the same for me. "Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment", "How To Create a Magical Relationship" and "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book ... Read More:

This is a seriously good book on card magic. I've heard many magicians refer to it as the book that got them started.

Just take your time, don't skip ahead and practice when you get time.

John O'Donohue's death earlier this year was a sad, sad loss.
Heard him at Greenbelt in 2007 and he was simply awesome.

If you've not read any of his books, then I would not advise you starting with this one. Start with Anam Cara, which in my view is his masterpiece.

This book of blessings will make much more sense after you've read Anam Cara and perhaps one of his other books first, like Eternal Echoes.

If you have read one of his earlier books then this book will be a treasured resource for you to dip in and out of. John O'Donohue is a wordsmith of the highest order and his turn of phrase is delightful.

He covers themes such as Beginnings, Desires, Thresholds, Homecomings, States of Heart, Callings and Beyond ... Read More:

Yes, it was a helpful and interesting critique of the Dawkins view. I expected a strong attack on Dawkins but the tone is gracious and the ideas well reasoned. This debate has become pretty polarised and this book is unlikley to convince a convinced naturalist but it might make the undecided think. Worth trying "God's Undertaker - Has Science buried God" by John C Lennox.

This is an awful book. It is very poorly written and dull to read. It's obvious that the author (an expert on Russia) knows very little about Eastern Europe, China, Africa, Cuba, or anywhere else with a Communist movement. Many of his generalizations (and the book is little else) are regurgitated from the literature of 30 years ago. There is nothing new in this book. It has no insights - even on the Soviet Union - to make it worth the bother of ploughing through its dreadful prose.

Very inspirational collection of short, quite simple at first sight, passages. Each page of the book is a new passage - a message of guidance, wisdom and encouragement. Each passage sets out to define a characteristic of 'the warrior of light', a concept I will not even attempt to explain here. Read the book, let your inner light shine and, in essence, live a better life.

This is an excellent book if you have either a beginner in meditation or advanced meditator. The author gives your tips on how to practice mindfulness meditation, that is how to incorporate it in your daily life. Being a begginner meditator myself I got caught in the process of sitting down and meditating, only to find out that I was running way from reality. This book teaches you how to meditate while you do your dishes, clean your home, listen to music, talk to friends.... It is s a great book. What this book does not is enter into discussion of the practice of mindfulness itself, therefore is better to have some knowledge of the practice before reading the book.

I've seen some very positive reviews of this book, so maybe it gets better (or at least explains its bizarre and genuinely disturbing opening). I'm used to reading this kind of thing and I'm affriad I didn't get very far with this one before putting it down. Gyatso seems to be entirely missing the point, going off on a lengthy tangent about how he is convinced that he knows the exact person in which his mother has been reborn. He comes across as a man obsessed - not very Buddhist, I'd say.
