It's the second time I read Howl's moving castle, and I like it quite enough: there's magic, humour, endearing characters...and it's nice to get acquainted with Calcifer, no mistake.
But I have a problem with the plot: I find this book rather confusing : the explanations at the end are not satisfying and not very clear. And after all these mysteries (the witch, her demon, Sophie's talents, the dog...)I expected something better: the end is a bit sloppy.
Say what you want, Rowling is a master at explaning her "mysteries", and not Jones.
But if you try not too hard to find the logic in it, it's quite a good ride for you!

Once again, as I've said in my other reviews of the Hiccup books, this is wonderful. My son wants to say "it's awesome". We have this in audio version All the family are fans of the characters, Hiccup is the obvious favourite but I have a soft spot for Old Wrinkly. A great story with a good twist. Can't wait for the next.

I originally bought this book as a 5th birthday present for my friend's little girl. When my 6 year old son saw it, he said I had to keep it for him. What lovely stories, the antics of Winnie, Wilbur and all her family, keep you so entertained. The illustrations are fantastic, we spend hours looking at them as they contain so much detail. They are always top of my list for birthday and Christmas presents.

Well done Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul.

This was a bizarre little book. It is a retelling of an old Welsh legend - a legend of a curse that is relived in each generation, again and again, in the same Welsh Valley. The main characters are Allison and Roger who are Step Siblings and Gwen is the son of the flitch - the wise man of the valley.

The book captivated and I could not put it down. Various kinds of discrimination and prejudice pervade the plot and the book is full of dark twisty turns in the plot and sub-plots, one of which is the condensation of the English to the Welsh and its corollary in the Welsh resentment of English wealth. The class divide is on many different levels: between a working class boy and richer children, between a land-owning family and a businessman's ... Read More:

I was given the Olga Da Polga books when I was a little girl because I was and still am crazy about guineapigs (I currently have 8 of them!). I really loved the stories told from the guineapigs perspective, I found them truly entertaining. I still enjoy reading them now and have my originals which I read to my own children. I see that since I was a girl there have been additions to the series and I am going to buy them!

This novel reminded me of when I was a child, and I once said to my father that I'd really love to spend the night alone in a Library, being fascinated by books. When asked why, I'd replied by telling him that I believed that all the characters from all the stories came alive during the night and I wanted to see and to meet some of them. I was delighted at the prospect, until that is, my father quite sensibly pointed out by replying there would be many bad and evil characters amongst the good too - and of course he was right!

This is a long book, (over 500 pages!) and I'd be surprised at many very young people reaching the end of it. The story starts off very interesting, but as one or two other Reviewers have said; it does get a bit 'slow' in ... Read More:

I haven't read the weather warden series, being a vampire-novel addict, i went straight to the morganville section. I LOVE THEM.especially this one, which is probably my favourite out of all of them. some bits were a little random, and others just plain weird, but the book itself, as a whole, is brilliant.
