"The Official Highway Code", virtually essential material for learner drivers.

Is worth having the up to date edition. Do not settle for out of date cheaper version of last years lot.

However, for complete material would suggest The Official DSA Guide to Hazard Perception that includes the full Theory Test materials (incl. Hazard Perception). Also includes DVD for interactive options.

This book makes fascinating reading and is written in a humorous and easy-to-read style. My only complaint is that the author tends to skip over the scientific discoveries of the 18th and 19th centuries rather quickly and then spends most of his time on the 20th century and mainly American contributions to science. But, after all, Mr. Bryson is typically American and tends to follow National Geographic style in this. Still, it is well worth reading even several times and is very thought provoking. Thank you, Mr. Bryson, for explaining it all so neatly.

I am about to order this. After reading the reviews I can't wait to get my hands on this and read it cover to cover to get all 17th,ed and ready for my next NICEIC inspection. It will be great, more regs, more questions, more trying to explain to customers. I may opt (have to) to go on a course aswell which is excellent as I was wondering where to go on holiday this year. Roll on the ammendments. There may even be a prequel and some retro bonding moments to come.

This book was first published in 1992, but don't let that put you off - the topics are more relevant today than ever before, particularly given the way we appear to be sliding head-first into another age of unreason. One example would be the chapter on stereotypes: very appropriate in this post 9/11 world, showing the development of prejudice towards out-groups and detailing 9 reasons why they occur (and shouldn't). If only people would read this instead of the latest anti-minority rant in their daily newspaper, we'd have a far more enlightened and tolerant public.

There are stacks of case studies in the book - well over a hundred, described in great detail (sometimes so much detail that you need to re-read the rules of the experiment ... Read More:

This is one of those books you can just dip in and out of every time you're feeling a little stressed with urban life. Each chapter is devoted to a different aspect of the world of wood and trees. Deakin, a true English eccentric, owned woodlands in Suffolk and loved and nurtured them like his children.

In this book he travels the world from the new forests of Hampshire to the Australian outback in search of new woodland experiences and other people as obsessed by wood as he is. The pace is gentle, his love of nature and his ability to write with fluid beauty about it is a joy and even though I am a townie through and through I found myself longing to wander through the woods with him.

Sadly, this is never to be, so the ... Read More:

This is a very enjoyable book based on interesting psychological research. It reveals many fascinating things. People whose names became Den are more likely than average to become dentists and people whose names begin law are more likely than average to become lawyers. There are more murders than average in the week following a major boxing match. The book is more than a list of interesting trivia. It explains the research that was carried out and analyses the likely causes. A wonderful read.

I saw this book in Sainsbury's and suggested to my wife that it would be a good birthday present. Sure enough, guess what I got on my birthday. I love the underwater world as I am a scuba diver so anything like this is right down my street. The images are superb and the tone of the text makes it very easy to read. It'd be quite suitable to read in its own right but as the TV series is on at the moment it makes a great accompanyment to that as well. Definately recommended.

My dad bought this book for my 1 year old son. It's the best book he's got! The animals come alive in this book which he absolutely loves! I have bought a couple of these books for my friends' children and my son's little friends. The quality of this book is phenomenal. A definite winner as a present for any young child!

I am a Grand Ma and improved my Grand Ma ratings with all my grand children when I gave this to a 7 year old for Christmas. Cool, awsome, and other such things that are not often associated with Grand Ma's. All that said, I enjoyed the book myself as I have a hard and fast rule, don't give anything you would not like to receive. It is also the sort of book you can go back to over and over again, and, I am assured, it has a high swap value!!!

My partner and I had a lot of fun with this book! It has four sections to 'test your cat's IQ'. A. Cat Observation Test; B. Cat Performance Test; C. Extra Credit; D. Credit Deductions. The second two sections were quite silly & amusing, with extra credit for walking on hind legs, and potential deductions for behaviour such as falling into the toilet. The observation test section awards points for how often your cat engages in certain behaviour such as licking after eating and sleeping in the same place. The performance test is short, and awards points according to your cat's reaction to certain actions such as rolling a ball on the floor and touching the inside hair of their ear. While we thought that most of the behaviour in the observation test would be merely ... Read More:
