Charan Gill bravely tells his own story and what a success he has been and is. With his mix of hard work, humour, more hard work and now giving back to worthy causes (such as with the profits of this book going to charity), he is an ideal role model for young and old across the world.

The book greatly benefits from Charan having written it himself as his sense of humour comes out in many of the chapters.

You should buy this book now as not only do all monies go to charity, but its a great story and there are more than a few laughs.

For anyone new to Scotland who is intending to do some travelling around this is a cracking book. It covers just about any area of information needed from fauna & flora to transport options, general medical advice and detailed walking plans complete with maps. Even if you are not intending to do the walks it is still worth having just for the general information provided. Walking however, as the title implies, makes up the main part of the book and is very well done. Each walk is dissected, starting with a historical overview of the area and leading to information about what maps to take, the nearest towns, what to pack and a detailed description of the route. There is a small map for each walk, which gives a general idea of the terrain but this ... Read More:

It seems a long time ago that I first read Gavin Maxwell's trilogy of books relating the development and eventually the destruction of his idyllic existence on the West Coast of the Scottish Highlands.
Despite the fact that I was just a teenager coping with all the excitements and problems that period of life engenders, Gavin Maxwell's descriptions of life in a simple house located on the sea shore of a remote bay made such an impression on my eager young intellect, an impression that has never been subdued or diminished by time or cynicism.
Maxwell was not, in my humble opinion, a great author but his books "Ring of Bright Water" and the subsequent "The Rocks Remain" and "Raven Seek Thy Brother" remain classics of the Twentieth Century.
