This is a delightful collection of some of the Isle of Raasay's Sorley MacLean's best Gaelic poems. Written side by side in both Gaelic and English, the true depth of this great thinker and intellect can be enjoyed. As a Gaelic speaker myself, I found that because the English translation was the author's own, it complemented the Gaelic rather than superimposing English word for word. This allowed the reader to undcover the depth of meaning and symbolism in such works as Hallaig and the Cullin. An excellent read.

In April of 2007, I spent a fortnight in the UK, including a week in Scotland. The best part of the vacation was three days spent on Islay, which is a gorgeous island with great whisky and a rich history. I've never been a big fan of travel books, but luckily stumbled on Jefford's study of Islay and read it cover to cover. Jefford is a terrific writer and researcher, weaving the geology, history and culture of the island in the warp of beautifully-sourced studies of each of the island's distilleries. It's simply a terrific book that anyone traveling to Islay (or wishing to) should read before their trip. Oh, and Islay is a fantastic place to visit.

I have just finished reading Monica McCarty's debut novel: Highlander Untamed, but I sure will read the other 2 books of the trilogy!

The story is gripping and keeps you interested, her characters seem real, not just some shallowly painted 2D, made up characters, but actual persons. Monica McCarty has put great effort into giving them depth and substance, and she has succeeded! Her characters won't leave you indifferent, either you will love them fiercely (Isabel is such a loveable and sweet charcter, but she still has a backbone, Rory the hero is wonderfully handsome and oh so noble) or you will shrink from them from disgust (as from the MacDonald of Sleat or the Mackenzies). And another thing I found refreshing about her novel wasthat ... Read More:
