Having lived on the outskirts of Portsmouth and in Gosport I knew the palces mentioned in this book well which brought it all the more to life for me. However that aside this book will have all fans of Lilian Harry and of other authors of this genre hooked from the first to last page. Great reading

I started reading this book and didn't put it down! I always wanted to know what happened next. Each chapter never fails to leave you smiling, excitied or crying! The main plot of the attack leaves you wanting to read on, the sub-plot of Danny(josh hartnett)Rafe(ben affleck)and Evelyn(kate beckinsale)leaves you with a feeling of emotion. Randall Wallace is a brilliant writer, he makes you feel things with his powerful words he uses to describe things, you can almost feel it. An excellent book that matches well with the film. I would recomend this to anyone.

Books : Not Thinking of Death
"NOT THINKING OF DEATH" is centered largely around the prewar experiences of a retired Royal Navy submariner, Rufus Chalk. The novel is largely told in "flashbacks." Rufus and his friend, Dymock, ex-naval classmates, are in training for command slots in one of the submarine flotillas. Dymock has a reputation as a playboy and ladies' man. So when he "steals" Chalk's brother's girlfriend away, Rufus' friendship with Dymock becomes strained.

There is also an incident in the novel related to an actual submarine accident which had taken place during service acceptance trials in 1939. Rufus and Dymock are both involved in this incident, and the results are tragic.

I thought that "NOT THINKING OF DEATH" was a good novel, notwithstanding ... Read More:

164.The Bloody Road to Death by: Sven Hassel

When I first read Hassel in the 70's I was really hooked. Then having read all the then available books I forgot about him. A couple of months ago I came across him here at Amazon and bought the first 3 to re-read and also "The Bloody Road To Death" as the setting for this one mentions Greece (where I live). I was appalled at the gross inaccuracy of this book's setting! They should have used a geographical atlas and done some research...

Conclusion: Hassel is enjoyable to read but the "historical facts" are really too fictional to even ignore! Research about Hassel verifies in my mind that the accusations of a fake are all true. His "autobiography" as presented in his books is as true as.... Lobsang Rampa's!

However I must concede ... Read More:

I picked this book up not really knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and was gripped from the very beginning - I must say the very first line of the story is probably among the most intriguing ever:

"The last camel collapsed at noon."

Great alternate spy/spycatcher chapter format to keep the chase alive and the pages turning, though I'm subtracting a point for some clumsy eroticism. I suppose that the spy thriller genre demands it, but I just cringe and feel like I'm reading Mills & Boone or something.

Otherwise pick up this book and enjoy.

Books : Bomber: Events Relating to the Last Flight of an RAF Bomber Over Germany on the Night of June 31st, 1943
This, quite frankly, is one of the best books I have ever read. Be prepared to start and finish it in one day. The narrative grips you from the very beginning and the descriptions of the various parts of the raid from the take off to the journey, to the raid itself are breathtaking. You can feel the bombs falling around you. I read this when it was first published way back when. but I foolishly lent my copy and never got it back. Don't let that happen to you. Buy this and treasure it as a superb read, and one you'll read again.

Steven Wilson's Voyage of the Gray Wolves is an exciting book fill with fascinating characters. Sometimes writers will fill their books with cardboard cut-outs and just hope that everything works out. That isn't the case here. You can tell that Wilson cares about these people. Everyone seems real and that they have a reason to be there. The action sequences are superb. Very authentic. I understand that he has a new book coming out in NOvember 2005 called Between the Hunters and the Hunted. It's about battleships during World War II.

I recommend that reader get both books. You won't be disappointed.
