A fantastic book on how to make necessary change in an organization by overcoming the inertia of "doing things the way they've always been done." I constantly run through the 8 steps in my mind when I am thinking about ways to help all of us continue to align our people to new ideas or more effective field strategies.

I bought this book only for one reason - to pass an upcoming June 2008 ACCA Paper P3 'Business Strategy' exam. And I did! I had only 9 days allocated for this paper so my only hope was this book. Its language is very understandable, though sometimes I felt that material is too much detailed (maybe because I hadn't much time).

With the book you receive access to an online content. At that time the content was incomplete and was partly lacking business case scenarios, but the tests module was perfect. For every chapter you have many multiple-choice questions and all your answers and results are being recorded. So you can easily see where an improvement required. Also you have an option to download mp3's summarizing the content of the book. You ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this book - especially the chapters on the better known brands like Pizza Express and Cobra Beer. It's really inspiring to find out how these huge businesses started. Inspired me to think more about my dreams to start a business myself. Would agree with the other review though - not all are household names, but the stories are equally as interesting.

I guess the main message of the book is: if you've got an idea, go for it. You never know where it'll lead.

The premise of this book is the story of a soap company that would eventually become Unilever and its founder and directing mind, William Lever. It doesn't sound promising, but, like many obscure corners of history that have been illuminated by fascinating, lucid and readable biographies and histories, this is the window to a wide and startling vista.

I came to read the book after hearing excerpts of it on BBC Radio 4's `A Good Read'. It sounded interesting in the round, but what really made me pay attention was the detail on Rivington. Rivington is a village in the moorland above Chorley and Bolton. It has medieval tithe barns, a quaint village centre, strange follies and the most amazing terraced gardens, ornamental lake and Roman ruins.

I'm not an entrepreneur and have no intention of becoming one (at least not yet!), however I found this a fascinating and inspiring read. You don't have to be in business to benefit from the advice dispensed in this book, it can be applied to people's day to day lives as well, which is what makes it really great.

It's an eye opening read and makes you think about the world, and yourself, differently. After all, entrepreneurs see opportunities where you and I see everyday things and the more you read about them, the more their mannerisms and philosophies begin to rub off on you. So if you're looking for an injection of inspiration and motivation in your life, look no further.

Thought this was a great book. The way it takes you through a week by week step makes it very easy to understand and he gives you some very useful contacts. I reckon with the majority of people who read this they will feel much more comfortable and at ease in starting a business.

This is a good book for mapping out all of your plans and goals in life - it has motivation, inspiration and also some tools for achoieving what you want. It doesn't leave out the spiritual part of life either which is rather nice - a different appraoch to personal development I have to say. A good planner to go along with this is the VISION `Life Diary 2009', it's a very good inspirational planner for the year ahead. The two of these together would kick the year off right!

I have been selling on ebay for a few years, only in small quantities and as a hobby, but I thought I knew quite a lot. Having read this book I realised I knew nothing. For example simple things such as whether your item title will show up in a buyers search, is it misspelt, have you left out vital information. Stuff that's really obvious when you think about it, but I hadn't been. It's also meant that I have profited from other's mistakes, buying items that have been badly marketed for a much cheaper price! My sales have definitely improved and I've streamlined how I work. The one thing he doesn't tell me, is where I can find cheap stock!
Since reading Dan's book I've spent a lot more time looking around ebay, getting ideas on what works, checking out what's selling well ... Read More:

This book should be essential reading for anybody involved in strategy. It clearly breaks out ten diffent models of how strategy is thought about and managed. These 10 models explain why so often one person's view of what is the right way to go about thinking and planning strategy will differ from another person's view: they are coming from different camps or schools, with different beliefs and different understandings of how strategy should be developed, thought about, evolve and managed.

Just being clear how the "Strategy formulation as a process of conception" school differs from "Strategy formulation as a formal process" school will help many readers. Then understanding startegy as an analytical process, startegy as a visionary process, strategy as a mental process, ... Read More:

The book covers very much everything you need to think of when starting your own business. From project management to accounting, Jim Smith uses clear language and several examples from his own company, in helping you to assess strenghts and weaknesses of this or that option when starting a small web design business.
It is very helpful if you're thinking to make some money out of web design, even if only as a freelancer. The book gives a full perspective on client relationships, including complete contracts, payment schedules and business plan templates.
The legal details are US-specific, so it might not be so hepful for non-US based businesses. Still, a good buy.
