"It's odd," David Foster Wallace once said. "I don't really think of myself that much as a writer."
I can't be bothered wasting my time on a considered examination of this man's prose.
He went to that lobster event and all he got out of it was one long whinge about the pain of the lobster.
He is dull , colourless and uninteresting as a writer.
No colour , no life. Lots of footnotes.

By more relaxed, I mean "familiar". I am using both Willkommen and Deutsch Plus (on two separate, but concurrent, courses). For those that don't know, there is a "familiar" and "polite" form of address and Willkommen makes those differences known and uses both forms more than D.Plus. D.Plus is skewed more towards the "polite" (business) form of address. Both are good courses and both come with CD's.

With Willkommen, you will spend a long time per chapter on one subject (meeting and greeting, where do you live work etc) whereas D.Plus gets into a pattern of two pages and onto the next subject.

It would depend on what style of learning you like. If you are going to study using just one book/CD, I'd probably pick Willkommen. ... Read More:

I started first semester anthropologi accompanied by Eriksen's book. It has become my dictionary which i still consult after starting on my master degree. I will also recomend it for people who know nothing about anthropologi. Its interesting and you learn a lot. It is easy to read and gives you a good overview over anthropologi. People studying athropologi on a higher level will find the book a bit too easy and shallow if anything... But great and useful anyway! I love the book.

This book was a Godsend! Having just started in this subject and never having conducted an experiment before, I found this book invaluable. It takes you through everything step by step, even offering laughs along the way! Everything is explained fully yet made easy to understand. This has to be by far the best - and funniest - textbook I've ever owned!
I would definately reccommend anyone to buy this book, it is excellent.

This is a spine-tingling (not necessarily in a good way!) long short story with hauntingly gothic imagery that shifts and stirs beneath a prosaic surface.

The female protagonist is confined to her room as a 'rest cure' which might be associated with what we now recognise as post-natal depression, but the enforced 'rest' that is more akin to imprisonment releases something in her psyche that might be madness...

The yellow wallpaper of the title is both a kind of fairy-tale mirror and a window to another world that allows the narrator to see the female figures caught beneath it and living out their lives beneath its shadows, an incredibly haunting and indicting imagery for Victorian England.

This is only short (more a long ... Read More:

I would happily recommend this set of books for even the youngest of children.

They are lovely and sturdy, with inset letter(s) on each page for your child to put their finger in and trace the shape, but most importantly they don't seem like an "educational" book to children! Even without focusing on the phonics element to the books, the pages are great fun to look at just for the pictures - there are recurring characters (eg a snake) which can be searched for on each page, and 2-4 pages at the rear of each book with exercises such as matching games, some with flaps to lift, which re-inforce the sounds covered in that book.

Because of these elements, my little girl (then aged 2) enjoyed looking at them just as much as my 4 year old son, ... Read More:

This offering from feminist playwright Caryl Churchill is an uncompromising critique of the capitalist mode of feminism as advocated by the model of the eighties power women, most obviously personified by Margaret Thatcher.

'Top Girls' deploys an interesting technique whereby characters narratives overlap leading to complicated scenarios wherein meaning is lost in the melee of competing voices. It certainly makes for difficult listening or reading but acts uniquely as a physical representation of the interupted and disjointed histories of the women whose situation it aims to ameliorate.

The play is split into three main sections. The first act witnesses the meeting of various fictional and non-fictional characters from history, literature ... Read More:

Do NOT buy this book.

This is meant to be the erudite textbook for an Open University course. Unfortunately, this book makes it impossible to read and concentrate on key concepts, when for some mystifying reason the publishers have chosen to use 'Americanese cod-spelling', instead of the correct printed form of Queen's English we use here in the UK.

This is extremely off-putting and should NOT be deployed in a UK textbook by UK academics writing for UK students in the UK. It may be an increasing, unwelcome and disgraceful trend in British universities - and if so, it is a 'trend' that should certainly be thoroughly resisted! No doubt some people will, in Orwellian fashion, deliberately misconstrue what I am saying as racist. However, they miss ... Read More:
