I bought this book after reading the reviews on here because I have discovered recently that I have a really strong interest in writing. I'd always thought writing was for a particular sort of person, the very talented, super-creative sorts who have characters and plots falling out of their ears. This book helped me to see that writing is for anyone who has the desire to write and that if you fancy having a go you should go for it.

The first few chapters had me laughing out loud with tears rolling down my face. It was such good fun, not a serious text book at all yet getting many serious points across. I wish I could write like that!

I also enjoyed the input from wide ranges of other authors, agents and publishers ... Read More:

The younger generation, particularly those of the rock star persuasion, are compelled to tell all who will listen that they invented all known forms of excess.Having struggled through this fairly banal account of the exploits of 4 of their number, I was reminded of my days in the boy scouts.

Read this in one night - and although I am at the beginning of the planning process - it made me laugh out loud, and I reckon it will be well-thumbed by the big day and beyond!!

Agree with the other reviewers, it is not very focussed on the actual planning - but is a great accompaniment to a countdown planner.

I am currently studying this title and although I agree largely with Vernon's views I find his attitude to nurses incredibly patronising (and given the list of things the man hates...."pomposity", etc) rather surprising. Although the man was a Doctor so perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised at all.

As a male psychiatric nurse who has worked with some Consultant Psychiatrists who can make "interesting" decisions regarding treatment and prescribing, I have found that due to their poor skills in diagnosis and patronising communications I no longer have time to "plump pillows and take temperatures" as I am so busy explaining in a clear manner what has been said my patients.

This is why when Doctors who are coming up in the ranks ... Read More:

I was surprised to learn that the Greeks did not have a theory of probability. Their belief "that the future unfolded according to the will of the gods" and their taste for "absolute truth" did not encourage the study of chance. Where pristine philosophy failed, the more grubby pastime of gambling succeeded in motivating probability theory. And, in true statistical style, it only took a handful of gamblers out of a large enough sample to get things going.

Today we might as well be Greeks for all that we understand or even recognize uncertainty. Even if we do not share the view that everything happens for a reason, it is still easy to ignore the role chance plays in our lives. We humans, with our big brains and clever language and propensity ... Read More:

I heard about guerrilla gardening on the radio. I thought it was a modern urban trend. It was fascinating to discover it's history. There are page turning stories of many different individuals across the world. As well as gardening the book touches on a surprisingly wide range of relevant issues for society today, from the shortage of space in cities, developing world food security and even adbusting!

Above all I enjoyed reading it. It made me laugh and feel inspired.

This book is brilliantly written and full of insights into the many cogs of the art world machine and who lubricates them. Judging by her qualifications, Sarah Tornton was designed to write this book. I look forward to looking at her next project. My only minor criticism of this book is that the pace of the writing slows a bit towards the very end.

Chris Andreson has written a down-to-earth, incisive and savvy page-turner to tell the story of how the almost unlimited choice brought about new internet-driven technologies has changed the rules of the game for business and the online/offline consumer markets.

Miss it at your peril.

Don't be fooled by the new cover on the most recent issue of Roadcraft. This book is not just for Advanced Police drivers but for everyone who has a keen interest in driving and for driving safely. As a traffic cop myself it is the bible for all the courses, however, it also takes drivers who have passed the DVLA standard test and through very well laid out sections, teaches them a whole different approach to their driving.

Without giving too much away, it teaches drivers to adopt a proven system of car control which WILL improve anticipation and observation skills dramatically amongst many other things.

A very worthwhile read indeed.
