I have read quite a lot of Palgrave books particularly on English literature and they are usually outstanding. I bought this book because it was highly recommended by others on this site. Please see my review of "The Good Study Guide" and "The Arts Good Study Guide" which have both been given five stars by me. Everyone has their own taste and I strongly disliked this book. I thought that it was very long-winded and I hated the "busy" layout which made the book inflexible and difficult to adapt to one's needs as all the grids and boxes were very off-putting and prevented one from taking command and imposing one's own structure on the work. I don't recommend this book at all.

The book demonstrates through a series of examples how nudges could influence your decisions on a series of varied subjects: driving, credit cards, organ donations, choice of school, marriage,... Many of those topics are well developed and explained. The style is pleasant and easy to read. The authors define two keys notions: libertarian paternalism and the opposition between Econs and Humans. Libertarian paternalism covers the ideas that private and public institutions may affect behaviours while also respecting freedom of choice. The default option will be a form of paternalism while the choice will be the libertarian part. I fully agree with what the other reviewers have said about this book, which is a marvellous overview of the Italian front during 1915-18. Not only a military history - though it is that, of course, but also a political and cultural history. And not only of the Italian experience, even though that is the main focus, but also of "the other side", the multi-national Habsburg empire. The outnumbered Austrian army (with bosnians and croats strongly represented here) fought well on the Italian front, in contrast with other theatres. Disappointing. Patch's own words are fine, especially for a man of his age, but the ghost-writer (Richard van Emden) is too intrusive and spoils the flow of the narrative.

A clear and well set out book detailing approximately 20 theorists who have had influences in the way we approach early years education. I would normally dip in and out of text books but this one I was happy to read as it's set out in such a undemanding and informative way. The book is set out with headings about each theorist's; - Life and upbringing - Books and writing - Their theory - How those theories have been put into practise and their influence The author also critiques the theories and provides web sites and books to find out more about each one. a brilliant book, a real insight into the mind of a man who will forever be remembered in history. it was interesting to read a book that had not been altered in anyway, by that i mean most books i have read about national socialism or the nazis, are so inaccurate, and full of the authors own biased views.

Knowing very little about John Barrowman other than his work in Doctor Who and Torchwood, this helped me learn much more about him and his life. I had no idea that he was so cheeky! He really has had an extraordinary life, and he recalls it in such an entertaining fashion. I laughed a lot while reading this. And though it concentrates a LOT on musical theatre - which I know zilch about - it didn't matter. It was entertaining anyway. Too short, though.

Here it is, the cure for insomnia! Given that one of the aims of the Life in the UK test is to test English literacy, you would think the official guide would be written in accessible English! Instead, we are handed this sloppy compilation of pointless statistics, useless abbreviations, dry facts with little context and advice that will make you slap your forehead and scowl: 'Well, OBVIOUSLY!' A blue box pops up every so often asking the reader 'check that you understand...', but oftentimes what is listed has NOT been explained or even mentioned in what you've just finished reading. I defy anyone to explain to me the differences between the Council of Europe, the Council of the EU, the EU, the EC and the European Parliament at the best of times, but especially ... Read More:

The diary of a young girl is a superb book! Recounting the life of Jews in hiding during the second World War. The cramped conditions, the lack of food and the terror that they might be discovered by the Nazis, is seen through the eyes of Anne Frank. This book is the best diary I have read. It is absolutely amazing.
