An astounding book. A riveting portrait of fraility and self-doubt full of drama and pace and tragedy. I have little idea who most of these people are but was utterly gripped by the sheer power of the prose. Just amazing.

I had eagerly awaited Lesley Pearse's latest offering as she is my favourite writer, however I was very disappointed by this book. It started off really well but felt once Gypsy arrived in America on to Canada the whole story seemed to recyle itself continually. The whole senario of her playing the violin in the alehouses and everyone loving it somehow did not sit well with me. Definately not one of my favourites from this writer

Favourite quote of the book: 'Give me my treasure back or I'll tell my mum' This book is a firm favourite with my 5yo son - he loves the rhythm and the pace and most of all he loves the little girl pirates for NOT saying 'certainly not, you're only a boy'. I have bought lots of copies for little girls as an antidote to stories of soppy princesses, and had to make a complete Captain Patch costume for my son for World Book Day!

Just finished this book, having read it in a few hours. Its almost good, James is close to being a really good writer, However, the coincidence of Roy meeting Mark in the hallway after the poker game was a real turn off, but not as bad as the rotten ending. Using a medium to find the body?? Really scrapping the barrel.

My 2 year old daughter loves all of these books - very imaginative stories - great illustrations - pages contain lots of detail she really enjoys.

Sadly, I was very disapointed with this book, definitely not a patch on the other three, I really was very disapointed and feel quite let down. Alfred was portrayed as a untrustworthy idiot, only interested in his books and his priests. The Danes I am sure would have most certainly killed any "traitor" out of hand, and were the Irish ever involved? if they were, I certainly never learnt that in school, and in my day we were actually taught History although we did know that the Norseman did land there in Eire and make settlements, as they did in America. I just hope that the next book is better.

Written from the perspective of an autistic teenager named Christopher, this wonderful and engaging book is short, easy to read, full of insight, and touching. You will, however, find it irritating at times. But then, what great book isn't? The plot revolves around the murder of a neighbor's poodle, rather gruesomely discovered, by the teenager. He trys to wrap his mind around who could have done this, and it will come as quite a surprise to the reader who actually committed the deed. But what is even more remarkable is Christopher's way of thinking--totally unlike a "normal" person yet somehow making sense. Wow - How little we know about Genghis Khan and the Mongols. What an anamzing people and Conn really brought them alive. The book/story was a real page turning epic adventure. I cannot wait for the 3rd book....
