Listen, the NME podcast wasn't enough. No monkey news, no diary> Karl needs to commit to something regular. Sort it out Karl, dancing around in a hairy outfit on a grown up show is all well and good but its not a full use of your tallents. Sort it out!

Books : India (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
and the best guide I've come across for India. Packed with detail and a reasonable cultural/ historical introduction. Maps are great, the timetables are pretty accurate, the opening times and prices are correct...

There are some very bad LP guides out there. Vietnam springs to mind. But LP India has been consistently good throughout the years. I think I've used 4 versions of the guidebook and have been pleased with the improvements everytime.

Obviously the negativities are that it is pretty big but how else are you supposed to cram in all that information.

The Collins Phrase books (I have used several of the new editions including French, Spanish and Italian while travelling around Europe) are great. They are easily navigable with colour coding for different sections - all the essentials you need for getting by on holiday - shopping, using transport, accommodation, top tips - my favourite bit though, and that which I couldn't do with out, is the awesome menu reader! By far my favourite part of the any holiday is eating and the format is nice and compact so can fit in your handbag/purse easily. They're really discreet for bringing out at the dinner table, pretty much fitting in your hand, and avoiding the truly obvious tourist look! They're good and cheap too so I will be picking one up for any ... Read More:

If you're the kind of person who sees water and immediately wants to go in, this is the book for you. It's practically a bible for the wild swimmer; full of marvellous places and written with such likable enthusiasm and fascinating detail that I really wished it were longer. Such a shame that he won't be writing any more.

From the pathetically inadequate preparations to the cooking of Eric Newby`s watch to the meeting with Thesiger...One absurd incident follows another as the two brave and foolish climbers fail to achieve their declared aim. It is such a funny book, every page is a joy. It is the kind of book you hope will never end. Sadly it does. Nothing to do but read it again...but, alas, I lent my copy to someone, and then it went out of print.
Luckily I managed to find a replacement in a second hand book shop.
So glad its in print again, now I can lend my copy without risk of being unable to replace it if it strays..

I asked for this for my birthday having read an excerpt in a Sunday paper. It's the best sort of travel/lifestyle/cook book. Everything's here; I defy anyone not to want to book themselves in for a stay having read it. And the recipes work too!
I keep it by my bed, and can't wait for "A Table in the Tarn, Book 2".

If you happen to be out and about around the countryside (or towns & cities), what better way to while away a couple of hours than in a cosy pub. This is THE guide to keep at hand / in your car etc. In it you'll find the most up-to-date information there is about all the best pubs to go to for real ales, wholesome pub grub, or fine dining. I've been using the Good Pub Guides for the last few years & haven't yet been disappointed by any of the featured or recommended pubs. Well worth investing in a copy as it saves you disappointing trips to mediocre pubs, or wasted journeys to a pub only to find that they don't have on offer what you're looking for (food / children's play area etc.).

Along with the featured pubs for each county, there ... Read More:

Always been a very big fan of Lonely Planet guides... they have helped me round India, Nepal, Pakistan, France, Italy and Ireland. As my old copy is pre-Euro I thought I'd get a new up to date copy. Wish I hadn't. I've been looking at the Paris section... we are taking our children and I was interested in Parc d'Asterix... no mention. Several pages on Disney. Lots of other destinations on our 'tick list' are missing.

Nice photography as ever, and the usual clear concise style. I realise they cna't put everything in the guide but these are major omissions. Not recommended. Sorry Lonely Planet!
