I've just cooked another dinner from this book and yet again it was scrumptious as well as healthy. I'd recommend this book to anyone, not just those with diabetes. Yummy!

This is a gorgeous,sumptuous book. It works precisely because it let's Vivienne's clothes speak for themselves. The full page glossy pictures of the most influential designer of the 20th Century almost make you salivate. I used to shop at World's End and wore the original Pirate range, but even then I'd still forgotten just how stunning it was. If you are interested in fashion, music, history, art, literature, anarchy and chaos, then this is for you.

The introduction and subsequent text is very brief, and provides a glimpse into the artist's background and rise to success. The text makes little if any critical comment about the artist's work, perhaps leaving the paintings to speak for themselves. The book concludes with a list of the artist's paintings and exhibitions. The book really is all about the pictures. There are about 160 full colour reproductions of Vettriano's paintings of which about half dozen are small images illustrating the text, there are over thirty full page bleed pictures many of which in fact amount to a page and a half and include one double page spread (the best in the book?). A fellow parent once gave me some advice; "only read stories to your children that YOU enjoy....." That was great advice to give because children tend to like repetition and I would often be "stuck" on the same book for nights on end. I love the Mog stories and I must admit, have fallen in love with Mog. This was the first book I purchased in the series and even now the boys are older (10 and 7) they still enjoy my reading it to them. A classic book which I will keep forever!

The recent 90th anniversary of the end of the Great War spurred me to seek out some literature on the subject. My mother's father fought at Ypres and Arras, and was invalided home after a mustard gas attack. I was only 10 years old when he died, but I wish I could have talked to him about his experiences. This book gives a potted history of each year of the war followed by accounts of various survivors who were interviewed in the 1970's. I aim to read more of the Forgotten Voices series to further my knowledge. I received Harry Patch's The Last Fighting Tommy in the post today and look forward to reading his highly acclaimed account of his time in the trenches.

I have to confess that I have only got to 11 June (today) - I bought this a few months ago and read it to get up to date and now I just take a page at a time generally on the exact day (normally in the inner sanctum). It is simply excellent and I can't recommend it highly enough. There must have been a considerable amount of research to find something in history that was related to the weather on 365 different days but so far apart from 18th March (the dullest day of the year with regard to weather related history) the authors have managed to find something of interest for each day. Not only has it been a good read I have found it very educational from a history perspective, I really have enjoyed it immensely. Just brilliant. Read More:

My kids (8 and 5 year old) enjoy playing with Bionicles and have seen a couple of the films on DVD. It was difficult to follow how all the various characters were connected, that is until we got the encyclopedia. Now the whole Bionicle world makes a lot more sense and the kids enjoy playing with Bionicles even more, and creating their own stories around the "Mask of Life".

I bought this book for my 13 year old, what a well written funny book. It is written in an informative yet relaxed way that most normal teenagers will understand. Although we have a relaxed approach to answering sex questions there are some things a teenage boy just cant ask his parents, this book filled in the gaps. Buy it !
