I couldn't put this book down from the minute I recieved it. I had previously read some of the information about Schapelle online, but wasn't too sure about any real details.

Although some of these type of books go on about the author telling you how innocent they were, this book contains much more information surrounding the structure of the Balienese legal system (or lack of it), and the court proceedings.

Through it all my heart just went out to this woman who is left rotting away in hell for 20 years of her life.

I would highly recomend this book to anyone who is thinking about taking time out to travel.

A "Woman in Berlin" is the frank and honest diary of a young woman caught up in the dark days during the fall of Berlin in 1945. The book contains an excellent forward from Antony Beevor the historian who wrote the equally compelling "Berlin the Downfall".
This extraordinary work has an interesting history. It was first published in 1953 to a German public that was not quite ready to face such brutal truths. It quickly disappeared from view and after many decades slowly re-emerged. It is now an international phenomenon and has recently been made into a film which will only enhance its reputation further.
The diary is well written as you would expect from someone who has travelled Europe in the publishing trade. The diary does not ... Read More:

If you've already decided you hate Cherie Blair (as some previous reviwers clearly have - one star? Come on - that's just nasty) then there will be little point in you reading this. Your views will not be changed. Fortunately, lots of people don't have their opinions formed by the tabloids, nor their barometer for perfection set so high that human failings are not permitted in anyone with the temerity to be in the public eye. To you, I would say, go and buy it. I came to it with little in the way of opinions other than that Cherie Blair must have done something terrible in a past life to have had so much opprobrium heaped on her over the years, plus I was interested in hearing her speak for herself. It helps, obviously, that I am close to her ... Read More:

So much has been written about Queen Elizabeth I and her glorious reign, but it seems that her life prior to coronation is glossed over. This book concentrates on her birth, early childhood and adolescence. It helps to explain many of her later idiosyncracies. Her early years were uncertain and changeable. One moment Princess Elizabeth, the next just Lady Elizabeth. In adolescence, years spent in The Tower at her sisters disposition! Such a dramatic childhood and youth need a separate book dedicated solely to them. This is that book. It reads very smoothly and ends tantalisingly just as Elizabeth's reign begins. Highly recommended.

VERY much enjoyed reading this book, I definitely recommend it to anyone (I have no employment connections to the Police or Law).

I've also read 'Perverting the course of Justice' by Inspector Gadget Perverting the Course of Justice: The Hilarious and Shocking Inside Story of British Policingand P.C. David Copperfield's blog (available as a book)Wasting Police Time: The Crazy World of the War on Crime.

What shines through from all three sources is that the direction of modern policing is mad!

They all provoke the question - how the hell do we get back to 'proper' policing?

All of the writers come across as likeable, respectable, human people. They don't pretend that the police are perfect, but on the whole people ... Read More:

Well i have been a dolly fan all my life so am probably biased. But if you dont like her now read this and you will have fallen in love. Growing up in a dirt poor family dolly had 2 fantastic loving parents and in the book you realise that her roots still mean alot to her. You can also read about all the charity work she does as therfe is a very loving caring heart behind the breasts and a very clever mind under the wig.

This book was eminently readable. The differences and similarities between the six sisters, and their parents is well described with supporting letters, news clips, and interviews. The author keeps it pacey and interesting throughout, and rarely repeats herself; quite an achievement in such a long book. I was left with questions about each individual sister, which will need to be followed up in books on their personal lives, but this was a good starting point. Strange how charismatic yet unloveable they all seemed. Maybe the individuality of each prevented that bonding one would expect in a family that was educated at home, without much outside influence. I would recommend the book to anyone who is curious about this influential family.

Buy this book is all I can say, I have read many books on the holocaust, and life within the concentration camps, and 'Five Chimneys' is one well worth reading......... it will stay with you forever, I also highly recommend 'Is this a man' by Primo Levi. I read this book a couple of years ago while I was still training to be a midwife and having just finished Penny and Sheryl's next book A Wise Birth I am reminded what an important book this is/was to me and how much of what they write about has stayed with me. It is vivid and moving and a fascinating insight into Penny's journey from being a hospital midwife to working and living with the Amish community
