Radclyffe Hall was an amazingly perceptive person who was born not only in the wrong body but the wrong era... This classic book is an absolute must for anyone confused about their sexuality. There is a reason why it is referred to as "the lesbian bible"...!! Without a doubt the inspiration for this book was Radclyffe Hall's own real life experiences interspersed with her own fantasies-on this occasion reality/fantasy work..!! NOT recommended in real-life..!!

"Frankenstein" is one of those books one ought to have read, and, as is rarely the case, one that also thoroughly rewards the reading. The figure of the monster is a remarkable creation, and the narrative itself is compelling. For that reason, five stars, without a doubt. However, I've given this edition four stars largely as a warning to students of the novel: this presents the 1818 text, which contains substantial differences to the 1831 text that is more common nowadays. While this (the 1818) text may be more acceptable in scholarly circles, you may well encounter frustrations if others (and in particular teachers) are referring to passages in the later, revised version of the text. Where this book excels, as most Oxford editions do, is in ... Read More:

If you are into lesbian romance and a good story, this is a great read. If you want a casual trashy lesbian sex book this is not the book for that. There are plenty of other good reads for that.. This is about old fashioned love, romance and sensual love making. I loved it and it is a favorite re read.

I was always a little wary of reading any Jane Austen. I guess I just saw my Gran watching some BBC adaptations when I was a kid and thought, Bleugh! How dull...
There came a point when I decided it was time for me to read some of the original and great books that have so many references in today's culture (most of which went over my head and I was starting to feel left out) and I began with 'Jane Eyre', which was superb.
I am not a massive fan of chick lit because the books are so formulaic... you know the story, girl meets boy, there is a misunderstanding they nearly don't explore their love and then... they do. Happy ending etc...
Now I know where they got their ideas. This book in its day was a truly original story that has ... Read More:

I have not seen the TV adaptation of North and South and only picked up the book because it was a present. I'm so glad I did. I was spellbound within a few pages.
Elizabeth Gaskell, who I would also compare favourably with Jane Austen, is a brilliant writer. Her use of words conjure vivid images in the reader's mind.
Her characters seem real - they have their foibles as well as their strong points - and you can feel their despair and joy throughout the book. But the main reason why I enjoyed the novel so much is because it is a beautiful, old fashioned romance. The depth of feeling between Mr Thornton (the brash Northern factory owner) and Miss Hale (who has moved to the north after her father decided he could no longer be a clergyman) is incredibly ... This is probably my least favourite of all the Bronte novels. Charlotte set this one at the time of the Luddite riots and the machine breaking, with the political issues allowed to take up a fairly sizeable chunk of the book. As such I found this hard, hard work, as you really do need some kind of basic knowledge of the history and politics of the day to make this more than just comprehensible. I thought this was an uneven novel, with flashes of brilliance which were just drowned out by the worthiness of the material and the way she treats it. It is laudable that she was clearly trying to broaden her horizons as a writer, but for me as the reader, not that enjoyable. I found it extremely hard work and ultimately unrewarding.

This book like Gerri Hill's others have the same theme - love, passion, finding one's self. This was an emotional book and the characters were exciting. Definitely worth the read!
