This book is written by a real wordsmith. The author paints pictures and takes the reader through a whole range of emotions. It,s the first Vardis Fisher I have read and I cannot wait to get my hands on another. For people who like tales of the west but cannot stand "meanwhile back at the ranch" literature, this is a must read.

I have read lots of books by MHC, but these stories were a bit boring because it was so easy to figure out who did it especially for people used to her books. I found Alvirah very sympathetic and kind, but also a very annoyingly nosy character and too "overwhelming", her husband seems to be a dopey sweet guy who just tags along and doesn't seem to have much of a personality. So I found the characters a bit annoying, and the whole winning 40 million dollars in the lottery is a bit unrealistic. Still I gave it 3 stars because nevertheless it'sgreat time-kill reading in airports, plains trains and the like. But I do recommend other novels by MHC.

I absolutely loved reading this book, and I would certainly read it again in the future.

I thought it was a good portrayal of a woman feeling guilty for not always thinking of her kids and putting them first. Would recommend this to anyone even as a first read.

I am halfway through this book but so far I am impressed with the variety of stories. Some have made me cry and others have made me laugh. Although I am not a big reader, especially not with erotic fiction, I'm finding this book very readable. I am pleased all the stories have been written by women to avoid the smutty, steriotyped lesbians that are often portrayed by men.

I really enjoyed this far more then I thought it would. Its lovely to step back into the world of Austen and see what love can be like at its most innocent. Beautifully written with comedy throughout, a must for all romance fans! I only wish I had read this sooner

This is by far one of the worst books I have ever read. The characters don't exist aside from their looks, scenes are blatantly repeated as though they are something new. Read if you want a really good laugh!

I really enjoyed this, found it much easier to read then any other Austen I have tried but that may be a result of getting familiar with the language. Once again Austen does not disappoint with the range of characters to love, hate, laugh at/with and those you just want to punch!! Another fabulous escape into a wonderfuly written world of romance and chivalry. Highly recommended!

Older ranch owner has had the secret hots for Jamie ever since the lad was an adolescent. When Jamie comes out to his dad and is chucked off the family ranch guess who he turns to for help? The author could keep the secret longing of the book's heroes simmering undeclared until the last chapter but she prefers (thankfully)to have the two guys get it on within a few pages. Thereafter, they do not seem to have much time for ranching,as opposed to raunching but who's complaining? This is a graphically erotic novel, hugely enjoyable. And there is some real adventure outside the bedroom as well lots of adventurous sex within it.
