Just received this and disappointed to see that it is abridged. I cannot see any reference to this detail on the screen information. I have not yet listened to this item. This is just the first point to note. May I suggest that the word 'abridged' should be clearly shown on the screen information that we see when we are considering buying an item. Thank you

In 'Life Before Man', Margaret Atwood presents us with several lead characters, displays their troubled souls and lets their worlds overlap. No-one would envy any one of these characters but perhaps we can identify with some of their traits. In Elizabeth we witness the self-destruction that comes from excessive self-control - I wanted to slap her, shake her, anything to make her speak out. I watched with sadness Lesje's innocent quest to find love that will not suffocate her, although she risks becoming the one who smothers. Nate is almost docile. A truly romantic love story, that leaves you guessing until the end. This is my first Mary Wesley, but it won't be my last. After the first few pages I couldn't put it down.

"Candy Cane Murder" by Joanne Fluke finds Hannah Swenson playing Santa's helper, literally, at the Lake Eden Inn. Wayne Bergstrom, owner of a local department store, is doing his annual good deed playing Santa for the underprivileged kids in the area. I have to admit K. G. MacGregor is one of my favorite writers. Her characters are very realistic and her language is good. She's a bit mushy at times... I'll give you that. But not more than what you want... 'cos hey - that's why we read this stuff. This is actually a rewrite of K. G. MacGregor's first story published. It's fine book - a very good read that you can't keep your hands off.

This is the first book I have read by Clare Chambers, and I loved it. I felt charmed by her refreshing humour and well crafted use of language, especially her descriptions of Gerald, which had me laughing out loud. The way this author writes keeps the pages turning as the dramatic mingles seamlessly with the comic into a totally entertaining story. I have a slight criticism about the ending, hence only four stars. I was expecting a twist, and had considered the possibility of the one presented, but for me the reasoning behind the outcome is only just believable. It could have been more convincing. Nevertheless I am looking forward to reading more of Ms Chambers work, as writers with her talent and flair can brighten the dullest of days.
