This is the worst book i've ever read.

Enid blyton rewrite this book and don't bother to talk about timmy getting stuck in the marsh!

Rewrite it now!

Books : Comic Relief: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Harry Potter's Schoolbooks)
A lovely read, I find myself reaching time and time again for this book because of the hilarious "comments" made my Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. This really does remind of a fantasy textbook, in the way that we would all love to scribble in our textbooks from time to time, to enliven the dull formulas and such that we all have had to learn! However, this is anything but dull.

JK Rowling goes into detail about mythical creatures, all of which are very interesting to read, partly due to the fact that most of them have been mentioned in the Harry Potter series, and you find yourself giving a little smile of recognition once every two minutes.

Funny, short, and a wonderful thing to keep on your bookshelf - if you have ... Read More:

Stockwin does it once again! A spell is cast over the reader to haul them into the world of Thomas Kydd, an English lad who has risen from a pressed man of the lower deck to the quarterdeck over a series of novels. This story picks up where "The Admiral's Daughter" leaves off, with Kydd in agony over the loss of his bride to be. He goes from low to lower as his career is driven upon the rocks and he must use all of his ability, strength and character to overcome these obsticles. His friend and shipmate, Nicholas Renzi, is drawn into the world of early naval intelligence and becomes a key in the struggle to overcome the injustice heaped upon Kydd. His keen mind an asset to the forces that do battle with the forces of Napoleon. In this novel we ... Read More:

One of Marcia Wiliams' best titles. This is a retelling of a dozen of the Arthurian legends, done with energy and verve. Young children will love the bold illustrations, especially the panoramic view of Camelot, packed with humorous detail, and the Round Table. There's also a dragon belching forth fire all over our hero, Sir Lancelot, whose limbs stretch over half of a double-page spread.

Magical!

I'm another re-reader of this book, first read many years ago. This time around I had recently read Alison Weir's book on Katherine and Anthony Goodman's "John of Gaunt". I too live in Lincoln and have absorbed the connections with Katherine both in the Cathedral and around Lincoln. Disregarding the many historical inaccuracies, this is a work of fiction and as such is a gripping and enjoyable read. I am about to purchase two copies to give as Christmas presents.

After the wonderfully written Ingo and Tide Knot I was surprised to find that The Deep ended up being so clunky and slow. Not really much happens in the 320 pages and there's no sense of urgency, mystery or need to keep turning the page.

Sapphire and her brother Conor are summoned back to the ocean when the Kraken (not the giant squid of common lore) threatens to wreak havoc upon the world when he wakes from his thousand year slumber. The kids sort him out rather easily towards the end of the second act, leaving the last third of the book to just ramble on about nothing in particular and sort of fizzle out instead of ending on a high note.

Helen Dunmore could have DONE MORE to make this is as unputdownable as the first two. ... Read More:

I only just received this gift today as a present from my teenage brother, and it was a smash hit with not only myself but my parents as well who were busy peering over my shoulder as I avidly read through. With the various removable correspondences, pamphlets, a coded treasure map, and other flip-open discoveries on every page, this book is sure to be a success with all ages. I'd especially recommend it to any fan of the recent Pirates of the Caribbean movies because of the wealth of solid and diverse historical information the book provides, while still keeping the lightheartedness of a fictitious pirate-hunter's journal. I learned much and I'm even a 21 year old history major who's done a little pirate research!

In The Ruby in the Smoke, Phillip Pullman combines three of my favorite things: young adult fiction, a good mystery and a Victorian era setting.

Sixteen-year-old Sally Lockhart has recently lost her father in a shipwreck. After receiving a mysterious note warning her to "beware of the Seven Blessings", she visits her late father's shipping firm in the hope that someone there can make sense of the note. When she asks one of her father's employees about the Seven Blessings, the man is so terrified that he dies of a heart attack right in front of Sally. And so begins a chain of events that will have Sally questioning the circumstances of her father's death as well as her connection to a priceless Indian ruby. All the while Sally is pursued by ... The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck among others and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.

In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.
