I am a fan, but this was not as good as the first book. Its abit like Cody Banks.
However it is still a great read, I am an adult and I enjoy these fast pace books. All the Alex Rider, Cody Banks, Young James Bond and Jason Steed books have been fast and great reading.
I dont know why they call them Young Adult, they are great for all ages.
My top 5 would have to be
1) Fledgling Jason Steed.
2) Blood Fever, Young James Bond.
3) Alex Rider, Strombreaker.
4) Agent Cody Banks.
6) Double or Die, Young James Bond.

As someone who has studied this period of Roman history extensively, I found myself correcting Iggulden's inaccuracies. AT FIRST.

By the third chapter I was completely engrossed; the story (however inaccurate) is captivating. If you are someone who spends their time correcting others mistakes and fretting over every little detail, then avoid this book.

I can honestly say that of all the fiction books I have read about this period, the Emperor series is the best. And I have read many, both fictional and factual.

Iggulden apologises at the back of each book for the historical inaccuracies and provides the correct details as well as explaining why he changed some of the facts.

I am putting the same review on this book and Scarrow's latest one in the series, "Centurion". Now this one is poor; poorly written, bog-standard charactarisation and ho-hum action scenes, but...

By the time you get to "Centurion" we have an author who has settled into his style, still basic, but eminently readable, with the author's research and expertise in the subject lightly spread amongst the plot and the expansion of the major characters into almost loveable specimens.

So for those of you reading this review in "Under the Eagle" stick with this series, it gets way better.

This got my 3 1/2 year old laughing in delight at the silly results of his page choices. He would not let me put it down, and though I had initialy bought it as a present for someone else, i will have to buy another copy. He was thrilled to know which stories the pages came from, and mixing them up brought him great entertainment. A big hit.

Our local pre-school gives this book out every year to the children who are leaving to start school. The book follows several children as they start reception class through the first term up until Christmas. Whilst written as a childrens story book it is excellently thought out and very perceptive. My two older children were both given one and loved it! A great book to buy before your child starts school, and a good starting point for parents who wish to prepare their young child for that big step!

Rowling has proved herself yet again to be a master of fantasy fiction in the second installment of the Hary Potter series. The characterisations initially developed in the 'Philosopher's Stone' are considered in depth by the author, allowing presumptions to be overturned, and the impossible to be considered. From the start of this work, adventure and excitement become codewords, allowing readers of any age to engage with the well written literature. Much recommended.

The Death of Kings is the second book in the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden. It sees Caesar captured and ransomed by pirates and seemingly left in disgrace on a wild and desolate coastline. However Caesar manages to fight his way back to Rome, where he begins to exert authority and build his army. This is a story of power, brutality and ultimately friendship.

This book is possibly even better than the first book in the series and definitely not something you should start if you've got a lot of important things to do, as they'll just end up ignored and forgotten! A truly exhilarating read and I only hope the rest of the series follows suit.

Some people have commented on the historical inaccuracy of this book and so I feel I should point out that this ... Read More:

The fourth tale of Septimus Heap delivers action, adventure, magic, and a good share of surprises.

The tale begins when Nicko Heap and Snorri, who in a previous book found themselves transported out of their own Time, discover a clue that might allow them to return to their home Time. However, the path home is a tricky one: Nicko and Snorri must find their way to the mysterious House of Foryx, "the place where all Times do meet." Once they are there, the difficulties are not over. Finding and entering the House of Foryx is hard enough, but once they are in, they must wait for someone from their own Time to enter before they will be able to leave and return home.

Meanwhile, the notes regarding Nicko and Snorri's preparations for this journey have survived until ... Read More:
