Again, have to compliment the author, the books are getting better. The first was a touch odd, but have since developed into a good series of books to be read by all ages. Great value on amazon, list price quite steep

I've listened to all of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon series in audiobook format (and read them in hardcover, too) and this is an OK version of book 3. I'm not going to comment on the plot but rather about the reader. If you are going to listen to a book, the reader is as important as the content. The right reader can bring a good story to another level. Unfortunately, while Jamie Glover is a good reader but this is not the best version available. Hold out for the one read by Richard Armitage. His reading is far superior to the other narrators (Tom Sellwood reads the unabridged version and Jamie Glover's version is abridged). It's a shame that Amazon doesn't sell Mr. Armitage's version but you can get it through audiobookcollection{.com}.

From the first moment in book one, Lord Loss, when Grubbs Grady encounters the Demonata and their evil minions it is obvious to the reader that Darren Shan books are from a different dimension. You really have to read them with an open mind, and a slightly twisted one too! The heroes are constantly changing, from Grubbs in book one to Kernel Fleck in book two, back to Grubbs in three and then Bec in some of the later episodes. Whoever is in charge you can absolutely guarantee a frightening ride through another world, which Shan depicts so very well. As far as teenage horror goes this is about as entertaining as it gets. Tim the Tiny Horse is a genius book from Harry Hill. Everyone could learn a thing or two from Tim's attitude to life. My sister bought this for my 5 year old niece whose only critism would be that it really is OK to eat a grape that you found on the supermarket floor without paying for it. So don't feel guilty about it, because they can't sell it anyway. Young and old can learn a lot about 'human nature' from 'tiny horse nature'. Buy it if you want to improve your life in any way at all.

Having read somewhere that the inspiration for Stieg Larsson 'Lisbeth Salander' was Pippi Longstocking, and as I adored the trilogy 'Millenium', after I finished it I went on to re-read Pippi Longstocking and was utterly taken by how enjoyable these stories are even as a full over grown-up adult ! Pippi is so endearing you just want to meet her and spend a fun day at Villekulla cottage with her, mr Nelson and the horse. Lindgren simply had a stroke of genius when creating Pippi, as very few characters come so alive, so pure delight in their unpredictibility, and among all the fun to be had yet Pippi also manages to be very touching by sheer kindness and warmth at all times. Power is the best in the series todate. Joe Craig has developed into a great author. England certanly can produce great authors. The book is fast and keeps you reading. Iw ont spoil the plot but if you are into teen hero books this one you will love.

Bernard Cornwell for me is the no 1 in historical fiction genre, and as these are his favourite set of books of all he has written, I was really looking forward to these. I have just finished the first book, and it was amazing. I think as these books are written in the Dark Ages, he is able to let his imagination go wild in a way that he couldn't in the Sharpe or Grail Quest series. This book is an interesting take on the famous Arthur legend, and in his usual way, he has done an amazing amount of research into the time period and legend, to make what is probably the most likely Arthur tale that I have read (dont expect round tables!). This book is one you just cant put down, finished it in a week! A great tale of battles, love and magic..... halfway through book 2 already!

I bought this book (for my daughter) on recommendation. I wasn't sure what to expect. I read it before I gave it to my child as I invariably do. I gave it to her with a smile and a wink and assured her she'd be scared (her idea of a good read! she's 9!) She marched downstairs the next day and declared she didn't know what I was talking about and it wasn't scary. The following morning (after having read a couple more chapters) she gave me the biggest smile and said "it's brilliant! I love it!" Apparently it had then become scary enough for her. :0) That was 3 weeks ago - now most of her friends mothers have bought it for their children and even her teacher is reading it to the class. With a cover as flashy as this you'd atleast expect something along the lines of decent writing... But no. We get this... I couldn't get any further then the third chapter - I got so bored early on, probably because i've grown up reading books from the great authors, Darren Shan, Ray Bradbury, Keith Gray... ETC... This had the lamest main character i think i've ever come across, she had no personality, not at the begining anyway! Pfft! That's certainly a few quid that could have been spent better! Acctually it was a kind of good idea, but i guess the authors simple writing techniques had rather let the book down a bit to much, i may add...
