The previous reviewer has pointed out the major flaws in this book but was still far too lenient. The second half of the book is taken up with a huge collection of tasting notes that are pretty much useless to the vast number of people who will buy this book. As anyone who buys Burgundy knows, the only time that a wine is widely available is when it's first released - 'widely' being a relative term as most wines are produced in limited quantities. So what use is a tasting note for a 15-year-old wine? It isn't going to help me decide which wines to buy as the wine is unlikely to be available anywhere and it's pretty damn unlikely that I have any of it in my collection - apart from anything else, the wines included are from Burgundy's higher echelons ... This guide was our bible during our stay in Burgundy this year. The information section at the beginning which covers history and culture was fascinating pre-visit reading to whet the appetite and give a feel for the area, as was the absolutely stunning photography. When we were actually on site using the book, the small maps in each section gave us a much clearer idea of how much we could cover in a day than, say, the road atlas, and the town plans were clear and practical.
