I bought this for my son when he was about 8 months old - he's now nearly 3 and still adores it. It's definitely his favourite book ever, he insists we read it every day and simply never seems to tire of it, and always finds new things to look at or talk about. It has led us to discover the world of Apple Tree Farm books - they are enchanting and seem to fascinate all young children. Definitely well worth the money!

I read the reviews and as a Key Stage 2 science teacher I thought it might be useful. The illustrations are tiny and the text is far to advanced (and long winded) for children. Not sure what the other reviewers used theirs for!!!!

We bought the whole series of Amazing Machine books and my two year old son loves them. The pictures are big and bright and really capture the imagination. Perfect bedtime reading - the only problem being that he wants me to read them all !

I really think this is a wonderful book about going to bed and playing games with your family. The little girl obviously likes playing the game and pretending that there is a gorilla, a witch, a ghost, a dragon and a giant who she does want to enter her room. The illustrations are wondeful and the expression of the girl's face and her teddy are delightful. I teach Nursery age children and they love the story and they enjoy telling it to each other. They know it is the girl's dad pretending to be these characters because of the slippers. I recommend it to parents and carers of young children at bed time.

My two year old just adores Anthony Browne's books and this is a special favourite with the wonderful illustrations which are so detailed and intricate. A visual gem. The story definitely has a dark and almost scary feeling to it but he just revels in finding all the different things hidden in the forest. Each time we open the book there is another just waiting to be found. Another masterpiece and an introduction to the wonderful subtly of black and white images.
