This is a sad day for Rupert, Stuart Trotter's drawings are just not good enough after John Harrold's beautiful and detailed artwork. Harrold was a worthy successor to Tourtel and Bestall. I hope a new artist can be found to rescue Rupert, or bring back John Harrold. In the meantime if you want to buy a great Rupert Annual for this Christmas get the 1963 facsimile produced this year and see just how enchanting a real Rupert Annual can be.

Both I and my children enjoyed this book and their friends too. With my name being mrs cole and the house descibed like mine,made the book all the more enjoyable.A fun look at the way other families live.Beautifully illistrated, a great book.

If you don't know this story, it's about a couple of skeletons and a dog skeleton that live in a dark, dark cellar and venture out to scare people during the dead of night. Not a very good story for a bedtime reader you might think! In fact, the story is very funny and not at all scary and so makes an excellent bedtime reader. It also makes an excellent early reader, because as well as the story narrative, the skeletons engage in some very funny dialogue and jokes in the pictures. These can only be appreciated by older readers. A brilliant book. Very highly recommended

I recently bought this for my daughter after spotting it in Marks and Spencers. I earned a few strange looks with my mini squeal of delight, but nevermind! I had completely forgotton about this book until seeing it again, and the memories flooded back as I read the story to my daugher. The simple story will delight any child, but for me, the drawings made the book. A must!!

I am not very familiar with picture books. They are not what I grew up on and am more often than not repulsed by the sort of illustrations they, well the modern ones tend to have. They are grotesque and often just insulting to a child's intelligence really. Well, "The Incredible Book Eating Boy" features illustrations which are no less conventionaly gruesome, to say the least, but blessedly not plain grotesque. It's the idea behind it, however, that gets to sparkle so! The book is 'bitten off', on the back cover. Yet the story is about anything but the carnally gluttonnous consumption of books. I got this book for my 5 month old daughter and I love it and so does she. The pictures are big and colourful, and she loves me reading the poems to her in a sing song way. I prefer it to books with one or two sentences! We also enjoy looking for the starfish doing silly things! The reason I have given the book 4 stars is because I would would have liked it more had it had stiffer pages that would be able to handle pulling and pushing and being chewed on. The price is also a bit steep. That said, I will still be buying the rest of the series, as its beautifully written and illustrated.

Although the age guide says 4-8, I was reading this to my 2 year old for a long time. This book is simple and straight to the point. I read it once or twice to my son and he went off to talk about his five senses and what they could all do. This is yet another great title from the Let's Read and Find Out series.
