This audio CD book, alongside with other Naxos educational CDs for children, is absolutely fantastic. It contains loads of information, so adults interest is guaranteed as well as children's fascination. It's a must for curious little minds. Presented in an easy listening format, it educates and enterntains at the same time. Boring car journeys became a highly enjoyable and educational experiences in our family since Naxos CDs were purchased. Being non-fiction, they can be listened to over and over again, offering a chance for the child to remember and/or understand more details each time.

I've been a big fan of Dickens since reading David Copperfield about six years ago. Bleak House, which was the immediate follow-up to Copperfield, is not one of his best books.
Firstly, what happened to Dickens sense of humour, which went AWOL in Bleak House? There are some half-hearted attempts at comedy but they mostly fall flat. The warmth present in the best passages of Copperfield is also missing, though Dickens' notorious sentimentality is rampant.
Half of the book is narrated by Esther, who is more given to protestations of humility than Uriah Heep himself, except we are supposed to accept Esther as sincere, unlike the villanous Heep. Dickens' portrayal of young maidenhood has often been lampooned, and Esther is possibly the ... Read More:

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck among others and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.

In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.

This children's picture book has stayed with us for 20 years now since it was given to our daughter by her grandma.
Somehow it seems like a small jewel in book form - so simple in its story, words and drawings it delivers a simple message to " be as you are!" And not to succumb to "what people say or think or what is "right" in the public eye...or what your peer group tries to indoctrinate - a valid thought to contemplate on.....This book is timeless....a real classic and a lovely 5 minute meditation also for adults! It always makes me smile when I read it!

I have read what some of the other reviewers have had to say about the book but I would point out that the title of the book is not 'The Little Boy Who Played With The Tigers' but 'Little Black Sambo'. It is extremely naive to think that the story is charming without any reference to the historical context in which the words, that make up the title of this book, were originally used. The story would be charming if it were a story of a little boy and some tigers but it is not. Would the same reviewers be as happy to pass on the same book if the title was 'Little Black N*****'. There would be no distinction, in the use of either title, to any person of African descent and to think otherwise is both patronising and insensitive in the extreme. To say that the author means ... I enjoyed this book because it stands the test of time and is still easy to read after 250 years! It is a satire on provincial politics, following the adventures of a country parson called Mr primrose. Although he is conceited and exasperatingly optimistic through awful experiences, Goldsmith can't resist finishing it off like a fairy-tale. Amusing, simple-yet-stimulating, and some impressive vocabulary. Someone who knows about political and social history would recognise its nuances. But it's an amusing read even if you don't.

Stories are one of the oldest and most intense forms of human learning. The Giving Tree has all of the elements of the kind of mythical story that provides sustenance to all who tell and listen to the story throughout their lives. A person aged 93 can enjoy it as much as a 3 year old, yet in a totally different way.

The story begins like this:

"Once there was a tree . . .

and she loved a little boy."

At the most obvious level, then this is a story about the joys of love . . . and the pleasures of being loved. The experience is clearest when the boy is youngest.

"And every day the boy would come . . . ."

Whenever the boy came when he was little, that brought the tree happiness.

"And the tree ... Read More:

Katy and her younger, Clover go to New England boarding school by "What Katy Did at School." They get many great friends. I become the feeling from which I became Katy's classmate.
In "What Katy Did Next", Katy's European tour is written interestingly. However, I do not so like the parent and child who are the companion of Katy. Moreover, the classmate of nostalgic Katy also appears. And we are excited by the whereabouts of the romance of Katy.
