I found this book immensely useful- the first half starts by giving breif critical reviews of several of the most common fary tale types (cinderella/catskin, snow white, bluebeard, hansel and gretel, and so on) and examples of that story type from various sources. The second half has a number of core readings from the most influential critics on fairy tales- and these are fantastic- Zipes, Bettelheim, Warner, Propp, and a basic description of the Aarne-Thompson classification system. Overall this book gives a good basis in the critical aspects of fairy tales, and of all the books I have read in this area, this book is probably the most approachable. I have two older children that i read these books to when they were younger and thay loved them very much I know have another child who is 5 and I have just started reading the percy books and she is loving finding out how percy helps his animal friends when thay are in trouble these are great books

I've been waiting for this version to come out on CD for a long time. My tapes, both sets, have worn out! I will never tire of listening to this, despite the fact that I scorn most children's literature nowadays! David Jason's Toad is a complete joy, conniving, self-pitying but loveable all the same, just like Toad should be. This version is atmospheric, funny, beautifully acted and 'comfort' listening of the first order. Forget the modern world and all its PC ways. Sit back and listen and pretend everything's alright - just for awhile...

very clear and easy to understand and read. full of interesting and factual information but presented in an exciting way. Absolutly fascinating! a must have for all historians or anyone hus interested in ancient civilisations. covers a huge variety of different stories, myths, legends etc. All in all an excellent book definatly 5 stars and definatly worth reading.

I love this book. Our headmaster often used to read passages from it in morning assemley decades ago, and it stayed with me since then. The language is beautifully eloquent, and the author gives us a wonderfully realistic look into country life all that time ago. I especially loved the chapter about his mother, describing her with such honesty but love too, that I felt I'd known her myself. This weekend read was better than a weekend break in the country !

I was FORCED to study this novel for a-level english literature and LOATHED it! I found it very difficult to stay awake when reading it due to the dull and unrealistic storylines. I would by no means recommend this novel to anyone. Looking back on the time spent reading and re-reading the book only reminds me of the days I wasted! Now that I have completed my a-levels, nothing would bring me greater satisfaction than to burn the book that bored me to death!

I first read Anne of Green Gables at the age of 19, and within two weeks had bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all. I still re-read them at frequent intervals and I am now 38! I would recommend this and the other books to any child or adult.

I am studying for my diploma in psychodynamic counselling and have found this book refreshingly easy to read. Its content is useful both in terms of theoretical essay writing and in adding to understanding of clinical practice. It is a collection of talks that Bowlby gave and as such does not detail Bowlby's attachment thoery, but makes reference to it.
