The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck among others and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.

In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.

Northanger Abbey is not Jane Austen's best known or read work which is really a shame, because it is quite charming. I love the way, Austen's work are as relevant, entertaining, and thought-provoking now as when they were written in the beginning of the 19th century.

Northanger Abbey is the story of a would-be heroine, Catherine Morland, who accompanies the Allens to Bath. Here she is thrushed into a world, the likes of which she has only read about in novels. There are parties, drama, charming young men, and her new friends Isabella and Eleanor. And the intrigues: Catherine's brother is engaged to Isabella, and Isabella's brother fancies Catherine. Catherine on the other hand has affection for Henry Tilney of Northanger Abbey. Catherine ... Read More:

Mr. Toad, Ratty, Mr. Badger, and Mole are among the many creatures and characters who inhabit Grahame's version of Victorian era England. He weaves their riverbank life and many adventures in magical yet universally appealing style. A great literary classic who will appeal to children and adults alike.
Adrian Praetzellis offers an excellent reading of the novel for librivox.org

I am a nine year old boy and my teacher got our class to read Just So Stories.
I think it was okay and can be hard to understand. The illustrations were different to other stories. It was funny at some parts and I enjoyed it.
But at some parts there was some dificult to understand the language.
I recommend this book to people who were around at the time it was written.

Plot: Spiker and Sponge, James's aunts, are mean to him. They always call him names like filthy nuisance and disgusting little beast. They beat him; they starve him; overall they make his life miserable. One day, James receives a bag of crocodile's tongues from a mysterious man and that was the start of all of his adventures...

Fact about the history of this book: Roald Dahl wrote James and the Giant Peach in New York nearly 50 years ago and it was the second one he wrote!

Rating and recommendation: I would certainly and positively rate this brilliant book 7/ 10 because it is a bit too imaginative for me and it truly leaves reality unlike BFG which is a bit believable; I would definitely recommend this wonderful novel to all Roald Dahl ... Read More:

Children & Baby Books : The Complete Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales (Literary Classics (Gramercy Books))
I love this book, it's so handy to have all of their fairy tales in one, and the old style illustrations are charming. Call me childish, but I never get tired of reading fairy tales. This book is also good bargain - can you imagine what it would cost to buy all of the fairy tales book by book?

I've been waiting for this version to come out on CD for a long time. My tapes, both sets, have worn out! I will never tire of listening to this, despite the fact that I scorn most children's literature nowadays! David Jason's Toad is a complete joy, conniving, self-pitying but loveable all the same, just like Toad should be. This version is atmospheric, funny, beautifully acted and 'comfort' listening of the first order. Forget the modern world and all its PC ways. Sit back and listen and pretend everything's alright - just for awhile...

I first read Anne of Green Gables at the age of 19, and within two weeks had bought the rest of the books in the series and read them all. I still re-read them at frequent intervals and I am now 38! I would recommend this and the other books to any child or adult.
