"Destination Moon" ("Objectif Lune," 1953) gives a detailed account on the preparation and the launching of the expedition to the Moon from the Sprodj Atomic Research Center in Syldavaia using the rocket designed by Professor Calculus. However, be forewarned that this is the first half of the tale, which is continued in "Explorers on the Moon." So do not let the cliffhanger ending to this volume throw you for a loop. Just make a point of picking up both halves of the story and you can avoid any sleepless nights worrying about Tintin and his friends.

"Destination Moon" is really the set up, for which "Explorers on the Moon" is the payoff. What is most impressive is the attention to detail that Herge shows in these books, in terms of ... Read More:

A gem if you are really into Tintin - it is facinating seeing the work in progress but frustrating not to have the completed story.

I read this book in a little over an hour after initially intending to read for only 10 minutes. I could NOT put it down, I could NOT stop reading...it was as though I was hypnotised by this magical story. The story of a china rabbit's adventure and the effect others' actions have on him. I wept for the last half of the book and for a good ten minutes after. Please read it through before reading to your children (or letting them read it) as younger or more sensitive children could get upset. Having said that any child would be moved by the story and perhaps learn something from it. A story full of wonder by a wonderful writer.

I like Runaways a lot. The premise is kind of silly (kids fighting super-villan parents), but it also has the potential to explore some more serious issues of family and relationships. The story is well paced and involving. The characters become familiar very quickly, and together have a lot of mileage. The dialogue is hilarious (I laughed out loud 5 times, somthing I never do when reading).

It's a shame the trade is so tiny. I would have liked larger prints of the (very pretty) cover art, and less squinting at the panels. The price is nice, but couldn't it have been a proper comic book size?

Herges Tintin comics are Classics and probably the best of the genre.
They really are for all ages, some of my best childhood memories are of reading Tintin or Tinni as he is known in Iceland and I still enjoy reading these books today.
What makes the Tintin books so good is that they seem to have everything in it that makes up a good comicbook.
Originality, interesting characters, adventure, suspense, great humor and well thought out stories.
If I had to choose only one Tintin book to take to a Desert Island, I think the Seven Crystal Balls would be it. The book is masterfully drawn like of course all the Tintin books and the story is not just full of humour and thrills but it also has a Mysterious Atmosphere to it which I really like.
