In my opinion, this book is ruined by the inclusion of the story 'Donkey-Skin'. As a first-time father reading this story at bedtime to my daughter, I found the incesteous undercurrent of this story both distasteful and uncomfortable reading. By articulating exactly what was happening (by using the term "father's 'proposal') my skin was crawling. His actions led to the daughter having to make demands to try and 'put him off'. Just downright wrong. Although I am usually against any sort of censorship, I can't help but feel this story has no place in our current times. The editors/publishers should remove this story, which ruins a great book for me.

Bought this to keep my 4 year old daughter amused on holiday. (Although she won't admit it my 8 year old also played with this). Great book with lots of pull out roads for the different trucks that are well animated. she made up lots of rescue/crashing/putting out fires stories. There are also pages to colour in so take some crayons and a little bag to save the trucks in once opened there is no were to store them. A great book well worth the money can be used again and again.

Another classic in the Meg and Mog series. My three year old daughter simply loves these books, and this one doesn't disappoint. The pictures are simple but colourful, the text simple and amusing, and the story keeps her attention wonderfully. I would always thoroughly recommend any of the books in this series.

My daughter who is nearly two loves this book being read to her and is fascinated by mermaids now! I like the fact that it has some depth (no pun intended) to the story and deals with separation from parents and home plus shyness and making friends, albeit with a happy ending. As a parent it is refreshing to read something with some bite rather than stuff about purple dinosaurs. If I had to criticise, I'd say that it needs a little more story development and to show the mermaid being reunited with her family. Don't let that put you off - we love it!

This book although beautifully illustrated was a little disappointing once it arrived. Yes, it does help with animal noise recognition but there is no story to follow. All you have is 'Curly the Pig - oink oink' etc. This is a nice book but will become very montionous for the reader.
