I needed a book to help some of my Year 4 students progress. Their handwriting was much better than the rest of my class, and the school's textbooks weren't pushing them along enough. If they can already form letters better than I can, what was the point of practising individual letters every week? Inside, this book wasn't what I expected. It's more of a textbook. You aren't actually supposed to write on it. Rather, it's a series of exercises to do in your handwriting exercise book. Prepare for some taxing vocabulary too - find seven meanings for the word "Vestibule" anyone? Activities such as looking up words in dictionaries and finding word families feature, too. This book contains countless unnecessary information, which is clearly not on the specification. while it is very useful for looking up specifics, it does not make a good revision guide, in any way. While specific information is there, if you look close enough, this is a very long winded method of revision. I am going to try the Collins version for the next module. I definitely wouldn't recommend this book.

I really liked this book because it's not only got a great dialogue and storyline with a cliff-hanging finish, but entertains whilst it teaches. There is quite a lot of number stuff as well that presents maths in a fun and real way to kids. Its modernist stance on penguin management should appeal to teachers and parents alike!

Very good book much more informative than any other books I have used. Has a simple layout easy to understand and has all the answers to my questions.

I found this book to be really helpful.It starts each topic with interesting,real life situations and explains the work clearly.Good diagrams and photos too.The key facts summaries really useful and the questions (with answers at the back!) check that you understand.I like the way it has application sections that put the stuff in the chapter into a different situation

This book was originally bought with "I can draw people" as birthday presents for friends of my daughter. The response from the parents was so pleasing that I bought the book myself for my daughters birthday, and yes I had to agree with them, that not only does it help the child to grasp the basics of drawing animals, it also gave me the confidence to draw an animal when she requested so. Would recommend this book to any parent of young children who's drawing of a cat does not look much like one!!
