My wife bought this book for my daughter who was 3 when her Grandmother died. In the book Badger is old and infirm and frankly suffering. His death is a release and, for him, a relief. Although her Grandmother had been quite ill before she died, my daughter never saw her suffer. Her Grandmother is simply 'gone'. She still asks to go & visit her in the hospital. Sadly, for many people, death is not a 'relief' and it would be wrong to try and spin it that way to a child. This book may be right for your circumstances and then again, it might not.

This title has just won the CILIP (Childrens Librarians')award for the best picture book of 2007 and a worthy winner it is too. Lots going on in the book for all ages of reader - buy it for the whole family!

My littl girl adores this book. There are loasd of "lift the flaps" for her to explore and the entire content is suitable for her with animals, shapes, colours etc. The only down side is that it is a paper book rather than board so some of the flaps are getting creased, also some of the flaps are very near to the spine of the book meaning that you have to be careful to make sure the flap is fully closed before you can turn the page without creasing the flap. Even so, I still think this book is a very worhwhile book for a toddler to have.

I was captivated by the book corner at a recent primary class I visited, in connection with helping young children cook as part of my course. `Pumpkin Soup' was the source book and `the corner' was alive with the green and gold shades of Autumn, and pictures/poems about the three lovable characters, with some amazing attention to detail even down to the bag-pipes! It proved an excellent platform for a project and the children couldn't hide their delight in acting out their little pieces - it sure brought a tear to the eye. Both my daughter and I love this book. The illustrations are fantastic, beautiful affairs that gives loads of detail to look at, the story is good, even after the 100+ read. If you get this one consider 'Dougals deep Sea Diary' too; it's great and there are a couple of subtle tie ins that make them work well together.

My two year old just adores Anthony Browne's books and this is a special favourite with the wonderful illustrations which are so detailed and intricate. A visual gem. The story definitely has a dark and almost scary feeling to it but he just revels in finding all the different things hidden in the forest. Each time we open the book there is another just waiting to be found. Another masterpiece and an introduction to the wonderful subtly of black and white images.

This is an excellent book - we got it for my 2-year old son for Christmas, and he already knows most of it off by heart. He particularly loves saying the spell (Snap, crackle and POP!) and then seeing what happened on the next page (see the title - yelling BANG at the top of his voice). I'm now hunting for some more ...

If splitting up can be made child friendly, then this book probably does it. But if things turn sour, then the Dad will be better off reading FAMILY COURT HELL.

I got the Big Book of this title, for use in schools. However it is just for 2 little brothers. They love it. They are fascinated and intrigued by all the detail and can look at it for hours. Parents also love it. In fact, it's a real eye catcher of a book with beautiful vibrant colours. I think I agree with another reviewer who says that the big book ought to have teacher's notes though. However, this did not spoil my enjoyment of it. I do highly recommend all books by this artist.

Along with, it seems, the majority of the UK, my children loved all the Richard Scarry books, especially "What do people do all day?". I still have our copies (from the 70's) in the book case but will buy the next generation (the grandchildren) new copies as I can't bear to part with them. I haven't met a child yet who doesn't love this book. The stories are informative and the illustrations delightful. A real must have book.
