She's the target audience, right? I'm a huge fan of Donaldson/Scheffler books, but this one isn't much fun to read aloud - for me! my daughter thinks it's great. She'd more or less memorised it in a couple of readings. I have already come to dread the repetition ('Come little monkey, come come come') and am frustrated by both the idiot butterfly and the ungrateful monkey. You can confidently go ahead and buy this book for your toddler to enjoy, but you may not have as good a time along with her.

Dr. Seuss has done it again. He has written a lovely rhyme, which has been made into a movie which was really good, and he left me astounded. Remember: This book is based on the movie not the real rhyme by Dr. Seuss (I think)! Please check out all the other reviews I have written of other Dr. Seuss's books (the list is at the bottom) and please, please, please comment one! Let's get back to the book; it starts at the Walden household when it was a total uproar. It finishes in the Walden household after, the Cat in the Hat, the hero, finishes cleaning the whole place up and driving away! This book came out too late for me to read it to my children. Oh well, I suppose that's what grandchildren are for. Actually, I just like reading it to myself, and feasting my eyes on all of those marvellous illustrations. I love the intense colours and the portrayal of movement, especially in the storm pictures with all of those sensuous curves. The cat Mowzer and her man Tom are depicted with great warmth and humouor. The story on its own (I won't tell you the plot) would be moving enough, but its coupling with such delicious artwork makes this book near purrfect.

I bought this book due to a review I read in a magazine. This is now a favourite at bed time. Both my 2 year old son and my 6 year old daughter have fallen in love with this story. We all have our parts to play in reading the story, my son is the dragon, my daughter the princess (of course). Sometimes it's a little too exciting for bedtime (when things get out of hand), but it's a wonderful read for kids of any age. I will definately be buying the next installment in Oct.

I recently bought this for my daughter after spotting it in Marks and Spencers. I earned a few strange looks with my mini squeal of delight, but nevermind! I had completely forgotton about this book until seeing it again, and the memories flooded back as I read the story to my daugher. The simple story will delight any child, but for me, the drawings made the book. A must!!

This is a beautifully illustrated book with a simple tale of a mother and son going off to market to buy ingredients for pancakes as a special treat. The son invites all their friends as they meet them and it looks like there won't be enough to go around, until everyone arrives with something to add to the party. The central theme is Kenya's national motto - harambee, pulling together - and the rewards of sharing. There's a nicely laid out factual section at the end about everyday life in rural Kenya with a map and even a recipe for pancakes. My 7 year old enjoyed reading this alone and then to me and we both learned new things about Kenya.

I love all 3 of these adventures, and always have. The Secret of the Unicorn is one of the very best of all the Tintin books. It does seem a little strange to include it in this volume without its sequel, Red Rackham's treasure (I suspect this is to encourage you to buy Volume 4!) All 3 adventures are classic Tintin, with suberb illustrations, exotic locations and exciting storylines. The colouful Captain Haddock is a very welcome addition to the cast. This collection is a real joy.
