This is incredibly catchy. I haven't read it for a few weeks and can still remember most of it. My little boy remembers most of it too and enjoyed it from when he was not quite 3 years old. Even when they've only heard part of it they can latch onto the repeated chorus "we all join in". Any book that ends "and when Ferdinand decides to make a chocolate fudge banana cake, what do we do for goodness sake? We all join in!!!" does it for me. It's cheap, it's tiny, and it's a great quickie when the little ones are begging for another story. The illustrations are quirky and lacking in the usual shmaltz that is apparently compulsory for most children's books.

This brilliant book is written in the same style as all of Gervase's novels and has captured that extra bit of wit over his other works. He thinks up the funniest of lines for the children and teachers and makes you laugh out loud. I normally would not buy a poetry book but after glancing through the first few pages of this in the book shop i had no hesitation in purchasing. Gervase is a genius in capturing the athmosphere. Try it yourself.

On the surface One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, the third Beginner Book that Dr. Suss (Ted Geisel) wrote, might appear to be a book of merely counting, colours, opposites and other concepts. The book revolves around the motto of "funny things are everywhere", and the fish in different guises are but the welcome mat to this wild, weird world. The creatures and crazy situations in the book (Yink, Yop, Ying, Gack, Zans, etc) are designed to encourage readers to embrace the world in all its quirkiness and diversity, and there are small sentiments peppered throughout the book such as "These things are fun, and fun is good" and "If you wish to make a wish". This book may be plotless, but the theme of funny things and embracing the world help ... Read More:

"Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, with drawings by Susan Jeffers brings us a great poem with nice pictures.

"By the shores of Gitche Gumee," begins Longfellow's famous poem, "Song of Hiawatha."

Presented here, stanza-by-stanza, we read the delicious language of Hiawatha's story, from birth to teenage years. It is not the legend of an American Indian that makes it so inviting, or even Longfellow's excellent use of simple English. It is the story of a young boy who happens to be an American Indian. Any boy or girl, especially those growing up where winter nights are frosty, where pine trees whisper, and owls and owlets hoot and laugh, will enjoy the prosaic poem.

This is my two-year-old daughter's favourite book. It takes the form of a poem about a child walking through the jungle and shows the different animals he sees and the noises they make. To an adult the words will seem repetitive but that is what appeals to a young child.

If you want a good book to read to your child, this could be the one.

This is great for all children that love poems and especially ones with monsters and dragons etc.
The pictures are great and in bright colours and the poems are all well written.
It was a joy to ead with my young son and I'm sure his little sister will love it just as much when shes a bit older.
A great buy!!
