Well I would have to disagree with the previous reviewers. Of course, it's all a matter of personal taste, but I was quite disappointed (having read the first review before I purchased) with this recording. I thought the pace a little slow -- ponderous, even -- at times, especially the "Te decet hymnus" passage. And the soloists, who look so promising on paper, failed to deliver, to my mind. The singers are supposed to serve the music, not the other way around. Having said that, Gheorghiu does hit some beautiful notes. I'm afraid that Daniela Barcellona's voice has a tinny quality, and Roberto Alagna may have been having an off day. Picky of me? Probably, but I expect more of such a line-up.
The orchestra and the chorus, on the ... Read More:

Mozart's Requiem has to be one his most famous pieces, and this recording does it many favours. The "Confutatis" is renowned as the most visual movement, and the Gächinger Kantorei and Bach-Collegium Stuttgart play with such passion, the emotions and visions of hell mustered up are clear in all senses. If anyone has ever seen the film Amadeus, the pictures from the film are instantly remembered as the orchestra plays the music written by Mozart to his death, resulting in his death. The soloists and chorus are as equally sensitive as they are passionate and harsh. The orchestra accompanying to perfection adding emotion, both destructive and eerie, especially in the "Dies Irae", with repetitive flourishes in the strings and the wind keeping the melodies ... Thirty years later, there still hasn't been a better sounding "Zarathustra". There have been more analytical recordings (including Karajan 1984), and higher-fidelity, but the beauty of the sounds that emerge from the speakers transcends any technical considerations. (It is earphone-safe too, with no peaking or distortion.) More importantly, the music ebbs and flows naturally, like the thoughts of a great mind: Karajan was a Strauss master, and so, it seems, was every member of the Berlin Philharmonic. (Special praise to the concert master, Michel Schwalbé, who delivers the Tanzlied with admirable purity of tone and Viennese Schwung and yes, a sense of ecstasy.) This is exhilarating stuff, whether you want to commune with the spirit of Nietzsche, or revel in ... Read More:

Absolutely beautiful! I was first interested by Einaudi's work after hearing Dietro Casa in the concluding scenes of This Is England. Waited a couple of minutes and the credits revealed the artist and song. I haven't stopped listening to his work since. I am gutted to realise that he has recently been to the Royal Albert Hall, and that i missed it. Here's hoping for a hasty return to England...

I really enjoyed this CD and I did find the music relaxing. However as someone who meditates regularly I do not think that it is music that would be used to meditate to. One can sit and relax to this CD but if you want to meditate this CD, in places, can be quite stirring and would not lend itself to an actual meditation practice.

Can't get enough of this CD and DVD; I've bought several for friends and family. The music is a mix of classical and swing. Very easy on the ear and has a timeless quality. My kids love it too and use it as a relaxing background to read or study.

I've always had a soft spot for JBNFMY, as I think it explores emotional territory not often trodden in music; so I agree with the positive reviews here. One thing has always irritated me, though - as a pedant. The tramp clearly sings '"Jesu's blood" - as in "Jesu, joy of man's desiring...", yet Bryars has always spelt (and pronounced!) it "Jesus' blood". Now we have Amazon compounding the felony with "Jesus's Blood"!! Still, who cares these days, eh?

I recently listened to my copy of the Braveheart soundtrack and I can say that it is easily one of my favourite film scores that James Horner has composed and I will certainly be purchasing the second album with the DVD. There are many film soundtracks that I plan to buy and even re-buy for James Horner but Braveheart is certainly one that I recommend for people who are unfamiliar with his work as his other best scores are also good but for me the Braveheart music stands out on it's own.
