Spaniards are dressed in black and have mean, scowling faces. They are the ugly catholic baddies out to get whatever they can in the name of religion. Oh my goodness me yes...

England is a clean, gloriously-lit kingdom with a gorgeous, sexy queen that smoulders with her on-screen beau, the dashing, Bond-esque Sir Walter 'oh what a big ship I've got' Raleigh (see below). She bathes amidst the glow a million candles with her cute (blemish-free, full-head-of-teeth) handmaid. Lord Essex didn't exist, Lord Darnley didn't exist and the entire armada was defeated in 15 minutes! And Walter Raleigh's Walther PPK didn't jam once!

God, I love history! It makes me want to return the those wonderful days in the sun-drenched San ... Read More:

This (probably) beautiful film by one of my favourite directors was ruined by a musical score (yet again!) drowning out the dialogue. When will they learn less is more???

DVD : Candy [2006]
"When I first met Candy..."
Heath Ledger gives an astounding performance as Dan, a friendly poet and the lover of painter Candy, played by Abbie Cornish, who is attracted to his bohemian lifestyle. The two are drug abusers and find themselves becoming more and more addicted to heroin, and also each other.

The film makes you want to cry, both actors delivering bewilderingly beautiful performances. Dan's inability to refuse Candy anything making him a weak central charater whom we love, Ledger's calm deep voice makes Dan as real as any boy you'd meet on the street.

People who compare the book to the film, should stop and marval at the film as an entity of its own - the directing is brilliant and the humor is also great. ... Read More:

As a HD disc the picture is superb, the colours are bright, detail sharp and the sound excellent.

I agree with the other reviews that it was not historically correct and spent to much time trying to find a love interest

The navel battle takes about 4 minutes of the film which is such a waste as the detail of the ships and battle scene is amazing.

I think Cate Blanchett is a superb actress who plays her part extremely well, I don`t think Clive Owen was right for the part as Raleigh the part was too big.

It is a good film only because Cate Blanchett is a superb actress.

Far too much is made of this film simply because the main characters in it are lesbian. Rather than simply look at that if you just watch this film as an erotic thriller similar to Basic Instincts then you have a serious case of the yawn factor.

The film simply does not get going, for a suspense thriller you need well, suspense! The characters are just so dull you get the impression even the actresses are bored and are just praying for the director to say "Cut" so then can go home. The film just drifts along at a walking pace and no sorry, just because the main characters are lesbian is not going to convince me the film is any good.

A poor film that if you can sit through to the end you will be probably kicking yourself you just wasted and hour ... Read More:
